Harbin Jewish Research Center
The Harbin Jewish Research Center is located in Harbin (China) and was founded in April 2000 by the Heilongjiang Academy of Social Sciences. In 2003, ''the history and culture of the Jews of Harbin'' was approved as a new branch of science study at a provincial level. Its major research areas cover the following aspects: development and use of the relics and sites of Harbin, promoting the process of reform and opening up of Heilongjiang and attracting foreign funds. In 2009 a cooperation with the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service Gedenkdienst is the concept of facing and taking responsibility for the darkest chapters of one's own country's history while ideally being financially supported by one's own country's government to do so. Harbin (; mnc, , v=Halbin; ) is a sub-provincial city and the provincial capital and the largest city of Heilongjiang province, People's Republic of China, as well as the second largest city by urban population after Shenyang and largest city by metropolitan population (urban and rural together) in Northeast China.
