The Dawn (band)
The Dawn is a Filipino rock band which first achieved commercial success during the late 1980s in the Philippines. The band broke up in 1995 with lead vocalist Jett Pangan forming another band, the Jett Pangan Group. The Dawn reunited in late 1999. The Dawn is considered the "longest-lived and most prolific rock band in the Philippines". History Formation and early years (1985–1988) The Dawn was formed in 1985 by Teddy Diaz (vocals and guitars), JB Leonor (drums), and Clay Luna (bass). The band's name was derived from a portrait of the Holy Spirit that symbolized the dawn of a new day (probably found in a book given by the Sisters of the Holy Spirit to Teddy Diaz, as well as a crucifix which Teddy also received from the same sisterhood), called ''The Dawning of the Holy Spirit''. Diaz, Leonor and Luna initially wanted a female vocalist; but in the course of their search, Jett Pangan auditioned and got the trio's unanimous nod. The quartet began performing in clubs and ev ...

Atsushi Matsuura (musician)
is a Japanese guitarist born in Shiojiri, Nagano, Japan. He currently resides in the Philippines. Early life Matsuura attended primary school at the Manila Japanese School, an exclusive school for children of Japanese expatriates in the Philippines at that time. He went back to his home country for senior high. He transferred to the International School in Manila a year after, where he graduated in 1986. He again returned to Japan and attended Sophia University in Tokyo for college. Music came naturally to Matsuura. His grandfather played violin and his mom, Hiroko Matsuura the piano. He took piano lessons at the age of 7, attending Electone (Yamaha Electric Organ) classes until 11 years of age. Just a lesson away from course completion, he shifted his interest to guitars. At age 12, he would own his very first electric guitar. He stuck to playing the instrument even after taking drum lessons. Career In December 1988, Matsuura went back to the Philippines for vacation. Jett Pangan
Jett Pangan (born Reginald Pangan on June 21, 1968) is a Filipino actor, singer and guitarist best known for fronting the Filipino rock bands the Dawn, and the now defunct Jett Pangan Group. He is also an actor, appearing in several theater plays, TV, and films, most notably his role in '' Tulad ng Dati'' and his lead role in the musical production of ''Sweeney Todd''. The Dawn (1985–1995, 1999–present) Pangan's love for singing was already evident during his grade school and high school years in San Beda College. While attending college at De La Salle University-Manila, he was approached to audition for a band that would later become one of the most successful rock bands in the Philippines, the Dawn. After the disbandment of the Dawn in 1995, the band would later on hold a sold-out reunion concert at the ULTRA basketball stadium in 1997, an event that didn't prove to be the spark that would ignite a re-grouping. However, in 1999, the band members were unanimous in taking ...

Pinoy Rock
Pinoy rock, or Filipino rock, is the brand of rock music produced in the Philippines or by Filipinos. It has become as diverse as the rock music genre itself, and bands adopting this style are now further classified under more specific genres or combinations of genres like alternative rock, post-grunge, ethnic, new wave, pop rock, punk rock, funk, reggae, heavy metal, ska, and recently, indie. Because these genres are generally considered to fall under the broad rock music category, Pinoy rock may be more specifically defined as rock music with Filipino cultural sensibilities. History 1960s: Early years In the early 1960s, as electric guitars, drum sets, amplifiers, and echo machines were becoming more available although not exactly affordable, Filipino instrumental bands popularly called "combos" formed all over the country. They mostly emulated American and British bands like the Fireballs, the Ventures, the Gamblers, and the Shadows. Ramon Jacinto, better known as RJ, and ...
