Harald Astrup (born 1831)
Harald Henningsen Astrup (; 12 May 1831 – 1914) was a Norwegian businessman, wholesaler, and city official. Biography Astrup was born at Larvik in Vestfold to Henning Martin Astrup (1788–1845) and his wife Maren Dorthea Lorbauer (1791–1885). Astrup later settled in Christiania (now Oslo) where he received a trade education with merchant H. F. Løkke. In 1857 he established the firm of Astrup & Smith (now Astrup AS) together with Carl Dührendahl Smith (1834–66), who was the wife's brother. The firm initially manufactured clothing. In 1865, the firm moved into the wholesale business. By 1868, the business concentrated on supplies for the shipbuilding industry later to be expanded to supplying steam ships and railway. In 1906 his son Sigurd Astrup joined the firm as co-owner and became sole owner in 1914. Larvik
Larvik () is a List of cities in Norway, town and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Larvik. The municipality of Larvik has about 46,364 inhabitants. The municipality has a 110 km coastline, only shorter than that of neighbouring Sandefjord. The city achieved market town status in 1671. Larvik was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The city of Stavern, and the rural municipalities of Brunlanes, Hedrum, and Tjølling were forcefully merged into the municipality of Larvik on 1 January 1988. On 1 January 2018, neighboring Lardal was merged into Larvik as part of a nationwide municipal reform. ''Hvem er hvem?'' ( en, Who is Who?) was a Norwegian book series, presenting facts about notable persons from Norway. The first edition was issued in 1912, and the 14th edition came in 1994. In the 2008 edition, edited by Knut Olav Åmås, one thousand persons were selected for presentation. Harald Astrup
Harald Sigurdssøn Astrup (29 May 1903 – 22 June 1983) was a Norwegian businessperson. He was born in Kristiania as a son of politician Sigurd Astrup (1873–1949) and Ingeborg Willumsen (1877–1962). He was named after his paternal grandfather ( Harald Astrup, also a businessman), and was a nephew of Henning, Eivind and Thorvald Astrup. In 1928 he married Mabel Anette Plathe Butenschøn, a sister of Barthold A. Butenschøn and daughter of Barthold A. Butenschøn Sr. He finished his secondary education in 1922, and was a travelling businessman in Norway and abroad until being hired in the family company Astrup & Søn in 1926. He advanced to office manager in 1931, partner in 1936 and sole owner in 1949; he also served as chairman. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957. His paper ''Omkring Bǫglungasǫgur'', on the Bagler sagas, was printed in 1959. In December 1957 he married Karen Blauuw, who would later become a professor.
