''Happy Birthday, Garfield'' is an hour-long television special dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the ''Garfield'' comic strip, hosted by its creator Jim Davis. It uses both live-action and animation. The special was first broadcast May 17, 1988 on CBS and February 24, 1989 on CITV. When it comes to home video, it has only been released on VHS in the United Kingdom. Jim Davis (cartoonist)
James Robert Davis (born July 28, 1945) is an American cartoonist, television writer, television producer, screenwriter, and film producer. He is best known as the creator of the comic strips ''Garfield'' and ''U.S. Acres''. Published since 1978, ''Garfield'' is one of the world's most widely syndicated comic strips. Davis's other comics work includes ''Tumbleweeds (comic strip), Tumbleweeds'', ''Gnorm Gnat'', and ''Mr. Potato Head''. Davis wrote and co-wrote all of the ''Garfield'' TV specials for CBS, originally broadcast between 1982 and 1991. He also produced ''Garfield & Friends'', a series which also aired on CBS from 1988 to 1994. Davis was the writer and executive producer for a series of Computer-generated imagery, CGI direct-to-video feature films about Garfield, as well as an executive producer for the CGI animated TV series ''The Garfield Show'' and ''Garfield Originals''. Garfield Television Specials
The Garfield television specials are a series of twelve half-hour long American animated television specials based on the ''Garfield'' comic strip of the same name created by Jim Davis. All twelve specials were directed by Phil Roman, written by Davis, and featuring the voice of Lorenzo Music as the character. The specials were originally broadcast on CBS from 1982 to 1991. Although the first two specials were produced by Lee Mendelson Films, this boutique studio was fully committed to the production of the ''Peanuts'' animated specials and could not allocate resources for the ''Garfield'' specials. All of the remaining ''Garfield'' specials were produced by Roman's production company Film Roman. Hot Air Balloon
A hot air balloon is a lighter-than-air aircraft consisting of a bag, called an envelope, which contains heated air. Suspended beneath is a gondola or wicker basket (in some long-distance or high-altitude balloons, a capsule), which carries passengers and a source of heat, in most cases an open flame caused by burning liquid propane. The heated air inside the envelope makes it buoyant, since it has a lower density than the colder air outside the envelope. As with all aircraft, hot air balloons cannot fly beyond the atmosphere. The envelope does not have to be sealed at the bottom, since the air inside the envelope is at about the same pressure as the surrounding air. In modern sport balloons the envelope is generally made from nylon fabric, and the inlet of the balloon (closest to the burner flame) is made from a fire-resistant material such as Nomex. Lynn Johnston
Lynn Johnston (born May 28, 1947) is a Canadian cartoonist and author, best known for her newspaper comic strip '' For Better or For Worse''. She was the first woman and first Canadian to win the National Cartoonist Society's Reuben Award. Early life Born Lynn Ridgway in Collingwood, Ontario, she was raised in North Vancouver, British Columbia, where she was a close childhood friend of comedians Paul K. Willis and Michael Boncoeur. She attended the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art and Design) with hopes of making a living as an artist. After working briefly in animation, most notably as an uncredited cel colorist on ''The Abbott and Costello Cartoon Show'', she married in 1969 and moved back to Ontario, where she worked as a medical artist at McMaster University for five years.
