Happiness (2007 Film)
''Happiness'' () is a 2007 South Korean film, directed by Hur Jin-ho and starring Hwang Jung-min and Im Soo-jung. It is a love story about two people who meet while battling serious illnesses. Plot When stricken with a terminal disease, Young-su leaves his careless high life in the city, live-in girlfriend and dwindling business. He retreats to a sanatorium in the countryside in order to treat his illness, where he meets Eun-hee, a young woman who is a resident patient there. Soon they develop feelings for each other and leave the sanatorium together to live in a small but cozy farm house. Their health improves dramatically but when Young-su's friends from the city come for a visit, he starts to wonder if he should abandon mundane rural village and return to his former lifestyle. Hur Jin-ho
Heo Jin-ho (; born August 8, 1963) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Career Heo Jin-ho graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in philosophy and went on to study filmmaking at the Korean Academy of Film Arts. His first steps as a film director did not go unnoticed as his first short, ''For Go-chul'', was selected for the Vancouver International Film Festival. He later co-wrote the script of ''A Single Spark'' and ''Kilimanjaro''. Many of his feature films, ''Christmas in August'' (shown at the Critics' Week in Cannes in 1998), ''One Fine Spring Day'' (2001), '' April Snow'' (2005), ''Happiness'' (2007) and '' A Good Rain Knows'' (2009) are variations on Hur's favorite theme: love. Film critic Kim Ji-mi says in ''Korean Film Observatory'' magazine (No. 23), Hur "shows the outstanding talent of being able to grasp the sensitive moments of the beginning and ending of a love between a man and a woman" (p. 22). The Korean Film Awards was a South Korean film awards ceremony hosted by the broadcasting network MBC from 2002 to 2010. History Originally named the MBC Film Awards, the ceremony was first established in 2002. It was renamed the Korean Film Awards in 2003. Votes were determined from a jury of 500 film professionals and 500 viewers selected through the internet, using a 7:3 ratio. In 2009, failure to secure sponsors during the global economic recession resulted in the cancellation of that year's ceremony. It resumed in 2010, with Hyundai Motor Company as the main sponsor.
