Hapoel Yeruham F.C.
Hapoel Yeruham ( he, הפועל ירוחם) is an Israeli football club based in Yeruham. The club is currently in Liga Bet Sout B division. History The club was founded in 1958 as Hapoel Kfar Yeruham and became Hapoel Yeruham in 1962, after the town's name was changed to Yeruham. The club have reached Liga Bet, which was the third tier of Israeli football at the time, for the first time in the 1971–72 season. Hapoel Yeruham remained four seasons in Liga Bet until relegation in the 1974–75 season. Hapoel Yeruham returned to the third tier (now Liga Alef), after they won Liga Bet South B division in the 1980–81 season and played six seasons in Liga Alef South division, until they finished bottom in the 1986–87 season and relegated to Liga Bet. By the 1989–90 season, Hapoel Yeruham were dropped to Liga Gimel, the fifth and lowest tier of Israeli football. Yeruham
Yeruham ( he, יְרוֹחַם, ''Yeroham'') is a town (local council (Israel), local council) in the Southern District (Israel), Southern District of Israel, in the Negev desert. It covers 38,584 dunams (~38.6 km²), and had a population of in . It is named after the Hebrew Bible, Biblical Jeroham. 1998–99 Liga Alef
The 1998–99 Liga Alef season was held between 11 September 1998 and 29 May 1999. It was the last season (until 2009–10) in which Liga Alef was the third tier of Israeli football, as the creation of the Israeli Premier League in the summer of 1999 meant that it became the fourth tier. Due to the restructuring, two clubs were due to be promoted from each division; Hapoel Ra'anana and Hapoel Nazareth Illit from the north and Hapoel Dimona and Hapoel Ramat Gan from the south. During the summer of 1999, Maccabi Jaffa were demoted to Liga Alef (from Liga Leumit) after their budget was not approved by the Israel Football Association, which resulted in Maccabi Sha'arayim (the third-placed club with the highest points total) being promoted alongside the top two from the South Division. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. The Israeli football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in Israel. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, and allows even the smallest club to dream of rising to the very top of the system. There are five levels, containing a total of 16 divisions. It is run by the Israel Football Association (IFA). Structure The top division of Israeli football is the Premier League.
