Maccabi Ironi Shlomi was an Israeli football club based in Ma'alot-Tarshiha. History The club was founded in 1996 by initiative of the Channel 2 program "Katan Aleynu" ( he, קטן עלינו), hosted by Avri Gilad; adopt a Liga Gimel club and follow its promotion to the top division. Under the program's guidance, the two existing Shlomi clubs, Beitar and Hapoel, both of which played in the bottom divisions throughout their existence, were merged to form the united club under the name Maccabi Ironi Shlomi. By the end of the season, the club lost its promotion race, as it finished second behind Hapoel Kabul, and as the series concluded broadcast, the project was handed over to the municipality. Shlomi ( he, שְׁלוֹמִי) is a town in the Northern District of Israel. In it had a population of . History Shlomi was founded as a development town in 1950 by Jewish immigrants from Tunisia and Morocco on the ruins of a Palestinian village of al-Bassa, (which Adolf Neubauer "proposed to identify... with the Batzet of the Talmud"), which had been destroyed during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. The Arab village was stormed by Haganah troops in May 1948 and almost completely razed. Its residents were either internally displaced or expelled to neighboring countries. The new Jewish settlement was named after a leader from the tribe of Asher, mentioned in the Bible (Num 34:27). Shlomi has been the target of Hezbollah Katyusha rocket attacks on 11 May 2005, Israel's Independence Day, and again on Israel's Independence Day in 2006. 2003–04 Liga Alef
The 2003–2004 Liga Alef season saw Maccabi Hadera (champions of the North Division) and Maccabi Be'er Sheva (champions of the South Division) winning the title and promotion to 2004–05. However as Maccabi Hadera folded during the following summer, eventually second placed Maccabi Tirat HaCarmel was promoted instead. During the summer Maccabi Kiryat Gat was demoted to Liga Alef, and Maccabi HaShikma Ramat Hen was promoted to Liga Artzit as well.
