''Hapalopus'' is a genus of tarantulas that was first described by Anton Ausserer in 1875. Diagnosis They own a ring like keel on the palpal bulb, the tibial apophysis with convergent branches and a spermatheca having a membrane like base. They also lack stridulatory hairs and they own numerous labial cuspules. ''Hapalopus formosus,'' also referred to as ''Hapalopus sp. Colombia'' or pumpkin patch tarantula, is a tarantula, first described by Anton Ausserer in 1875. It is found in Colombia. Description Males of this species live from 3 to 4 years, while females live 8 to 10 years. They grow from 8 to 10cm, though some sold in the pet trade, are thought to be hybridized, making them bigger in size. They have tan, light brown legs, with a black and orange carapace. Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão (July 17, 1886 – December 14, 1948) was a Brazilian zoologist who is considered the founder of Arachnology in South America, publishing 198 papers on the taxonomy of Arachnida. He was also involved with education, writing high-school textbooks, and contributed to biogeography, with essays on the distribution of Arachnida in the South American continent. Biography Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão was born on the Cajazeiras Farm, Campina Grande, Paraíba state, Brazil, to Colonel Cândido Firmino and Jacunda de Mello-Leitão.
