Algeria, since December 18, 2019, is divided into 58 wilaya, wilayas (province, provinces). Prior to December 18, 2019, there were 48 provinces. Ouargla Province
Ouargla or Warqla ( ar, ولاية ورقلة) is a province (''wilaya'') in eastern Algeria. Its capital is Ouargla. Other localities include Hassi Ben Abdellah and Hassi Messaoud. It contains the Issaouane Erg desert. History In the past Ouargla was the center of trading of gold and slaves, as well as being an important center of Ibadi Islam. However, the Ibadis have left for the M'zab valley. In 1984 Illizi Province was carved out of its territory. In 2019, Touggourt Province was carved out of its territory. Hassi Messaoud
Hassi Messaoud ( ar, حاسي مسعود) is a town in Ouargla Province, eastern Algeria, located southeast of Ouargla. As of 2008 it had a population of 45,147 people, up from 40,360 in 1998, and an annual population growth rate of 1.1%, the lowest in the province. Oil was discovered there in 1956 and the town's prominence has grown rapidly since then; it is considered as the First Energy town in Algeria where all the big oil and gas companies have offices and bases. It is an oil refinery town named after the first oil well. A water well, dug in 1917, can be found on the airport side of town. Today there are over 800 wells within a radius of the town. Ouargla ( Berber: Wargrən, ar, ورقلة) is the capital city of Ouargla Province in the Sahara Desert in southern Algeria. Balidat Ameur ( ar, ﺑﻠﻴﺪة ﻋﺎﻣﺮ) (sometimes written Blidet Amor) is a town and commune in Touggourt Province, Algeria, located near the provincial capital of Ouargla. El Oued ( ar, اﻟﻮادي, ber, Suf meaning ''the River''), Souf or Oued Souf is a city, and the capital of El Oued Province, in Algeria. The oasis town is watered by an underground river, hence its name is El Oued which enables date palm cultivation and the rare use (for the desert) of brick construction for housing. El Borma
El Borma ( ar, اﻟﺒﺮﻣﺔ) is a town and commune, which is coextensive with El Borma District, in Algeria. According to the 2008 census it has a population of 3,250, up from 1,997 in 1998. and an annual population growth rate of 4.9%, the second highest in the province. The town is located on the border with Tataouine Governorate, Tunisia. Geography El Borma is located amidst the vast sand dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental in eastern Algeria.
