Hansjörg Trachsel
Hansjörg Trachsel (born 30 August 1948) is a Swiss politician and former bobsledder who competed in the late 1970s. Trachsel won two medals at the FIBT World Championships with a silver in the two-man event (1977) and a bronze in the four-man event (1979). Trachsel served as an officer in the international governing body of the sport, the Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh and Toboggan (FIBT), where he oversaw the construction and renovation of several bobsled venues. A civil engineer by trade, he insured the required specifications, quality and schedule for sliding sport venues, including the Olympic tracks in Park City, Utah and Lake Placid, New York, and he provided early engineering guidance for the design of the Olympic track at Whistler Mountain for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. FIBT World Championships 1979
The FIBT World Championships 1979 took place in Königssee, West Germany. It was the first championships that took place on an artificially refrigerated track. The track also hosted the luge world championships that same year, the first time that had ever happened in both bobsleigh and luge in a non-Winter Olympic year (Igls hosted both events for the 1976 games in neighboring Innsbruck.). FIBT World Championships
The IBSF World Championships (known as the FIBT World Championships until 2015), part of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, have taken place on an annual basis since 1930. Starting with 2002, championships of non-Winter Olympic years have not been held. A two-man event was included in 1931 with a combined championship occurring in 1947. Men's skeleton was introduced as a championship of its own in 1982 while women's bobsleigh and skeleton events were introduced in 2000. Both the women's bobsleigh and skeleton events were merged with the men's bobsleigh events at the 2004 championships.
