Hans Meyer (actor)
Hans Meyer (21 July 1925 – 3 April 2020) was a South African actor born to German parents. In Britain, he was known for his portrayal of Hauptmann Franz Ulmann in the television series ''Colditz'' (1972–1974). Biography Meyer was born in Paulpietersburg, Natal Province, Union of South Africa in July 1925. He worked initially as a model where he posed for book covers until a friend in Germany working for an advertising agency lined up his first work as an actor, a television advert for Puschkin Vodka. The brand became Germany's best selling vodka and Meyer became known as "Frank S. Thorn" The Puschkin Man. He was hired by Anatole Litvak as an extra for his film ''The Night of the Generals''. In the 1960s, he played supporting roles in numerous French films alongside French cinema stars such as Lino Ventura, Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo. Hans Heinrich Josef Meyer (22 March 1858 – 5 July 1929) was a German geographer from Hildburghausen, who was the son of publisher Herrmann Julius Meyer (1826-1909). Hans Meyer is credited with being the first European to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro 5,895 m (19,341 ft). Kilimanjaro has three peaks: Shira, 3,962 m (12,999 ft); Mawenzi, 5,149 m (16,893 ft); and Kibo, whose summit was reached by Meyer in 1889. Biography He studied sciences and history in Leipzig, Berlin and Straßburg, afterward traveling in India, North America and South Africa. Subsequently he visited East Africa and South America. Managerial career East Germany (1971–1987) Meyer was born in Briesen near Bilin, German Empire, today Bílina, Czech Republic. He was manager of Carl Zeiss Jena from 1 July 1971 to 23 October 1983. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (german: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) and its variants were the highest awards in the military of Nazi Germany during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded for a wide range of reasons and across all ranks, from a senior commander for skilled leadership of his troops in battle to a low-ranking soldier for a single act of extreme gallantry. A total of 7,321 awards were made between its first presentation on 30 September 1939 and its last bestowal on 17 June 1945. This number is based on the acceptance by the Association of Knight's Cross Recipients (AKCR). Presentations were made to members of the three military branches of the Wehrmacht—the German Army, Kriegsmarine (navy) and Luftwaffe (air force)—as well as the Waffen-SS, the Reich Labour Service and the ''Volkssturm'' (German national militia). Hans Joseph Meyer
Hans Meyer (1913–2009) was a German-born teacher at Bunce Court School in the County of Kent, England. He taught at the school from 1934 until it closed in 1948. In 1940, Meyer and several others from the school were forced to go to a British internment camp. Learning that several of his pupils were being deported to a camp in Australia, Meyer volunteered to accompany them, ending up on the HMT ''Dunera''. Hans Leopold Meyer (31 March 1871 – 28 November 1942) was an Austrian chemist. He was the brother of Stefan Meyer who also received the Lieben Prize. Hans Leopold Meyer studied at the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg, Vienna University of Technology and University of Heidelberg he received his PhD in 1894. He started as a lecturer at the Vienna University of Technology, and professor at the German University in Prague. He was a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and he received the Lieben Prize in 1905, seven years before his younger brother Stefan Meyer received the prize in 1913. Hans Werner Meyer (born 14 April 1964 in Hamburg, West Germany) is a German film and television actor. Life and career Hans-Werner Meyer attended the Albert Schweitzer Gymnasium in Hamburg. He studied at the School for Music and Theater in Hannover and started his acting career at the Residenztheater in Munich. In 1993 he went to Berlin and worked at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz with renowned directors such as Andrea Breth, Luc Bondy, Leander Haußmann, Robert Lepage. Hans Horst Meyer
Hans Horst Meyer (17 March 1853 – 6 October 1939) was a German pharmacologist. He studied medicine and did research in pharmacology. The Meyer-Overton hypothesis on the mode of action on general anaesthetics is partially named after him. He also discovered the importance of glucuronic acid as a reaction partner for drugs, and the mode of action of tetanus toxin on the body. Life Meyer was born in Insterburg, East Prussia (now Chernyakhovsk, Russia). He studied medicine in Königsberg, Leipzig, Berlin and again in Königsberg. After his promotion to Doctor of medicine in Königsberg he worked with Oswald Schmiedeberg, one of the founders of pharmacology as an independent scientific discipline, in Strasbourg. Hans Joachim Meyer (born 13 October 1936) is a German politician ( CDU). He served in the de Maizière cabinet as the last East German Minister for Education and the Arts. After reunification he became in the regional government of Saxony.
