Hans Jakob Oeri
Hans Jakob Oeri (16 December 1782, Kyburg - 24 February 1868, Zürich) was a Swiss portrait and history painter, draftsman and lithographer. Biography His father was a pastor. He spent his childhood in Kyburg und Regensdorf. From 1800 he was a pupil of the landscape painter, Johann Kaspar Kuster (1747-1818), who came from Winterthur. After two years of study, he presented a self-portrait at an exhibit in Zürich and received praise from Johann Martin Usteri. In 1803, he and his friend, the portrait painter , travelled together to Paris, where he spent four years studying with Jacques-Louis David. He displayed several portraits at exhibitions there and in Zürich in 1804 and 1805. He decided to devote himself primarily to portrait painting and, in 1807, became a member of the Künstlergesellschaft (artists' society). Hans Holbein The Younger
Hans Holbein the Younger ( , ; german: Hans Holbein der Jüngere; – between 7 October and 29 November 1543) was a Germans, German-Swiss people, Swiss painter and printmaker who worked in a Northern Renaissance style, and is considered one of the greatest portraitists of the 16th century. He also produced religious art, satire, and Protestant Reformation, Reformation propaganda, and he made a significant contribution to the history of book design. He is called "the Younger" to distinguish him from his father Hans Holbein the Elder, an accomplished painter of the International Gothic, Late Gothic school. Kunsthaus Zürich
The Kunsthaus Zürich is in terms of area the biggest art museum of Switzerland and houses one of the most important art collections in Switzerland, assembled over the years by the local art association called '. The collection spans from the Medieval art, Middle Ages to contemporary art, with an emphasis on Swiss art. Architecture The old museum part was drawn-up by architects Karl Moser and Robert Curjel and opened in 1910. Particularly notable are the several preserved Moser interiors in the original section of the museum, decorated in masterful Neo-Grec version of Secession (art), Secession style. David Eduard Steiner
David Eduard Steiner (7 April 1811, Winterthur – 5 April 1860 also in Winterthur) was a Swiss painter. Biography He began studying painting under his father and continued his studies in 1829 at the Munich Academy. He returned to Winterthur in 1837. He first started as a portrait painter, then in 1840 he devoted himself to painting history and landscapes. His works include the tableau entitled "Ulrich Zwingli shaking hands with Martin Luther as a sign of brotherly love" (1856) for the municipal library in Winterthur. Georg Ludwig Vogel (10 July 1788, Zürich - 21 August 1879, Zürich) was a Swiss history painter, associated with the Nazarene movement. Biography He originally followed in his father's footsteps and became a confectioner. He had, however, shown an early aptitude for drawing, which was supported by his family, and began receiving lessons as early as 1794. Later, even though he had not yet made a final decision to be an artist, he studied with Henry Fuseli (one of his father's customers) and Hans Jakob Oeri. None of them became major influences on his style. In 1808, after travelling about, he chose to enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, partly because Vienna was a major center for the confectionery trade, if painting did not work out. While there, he was more influenced by his classmates, such as Franz Pforr and Friedrich Overbeck, than by his instructors. Johann Friedrich Overbeck (3 July 1789 – 12 November 1869) was a German painter. As a member of the Nazarene movement, he also made four etchings. Early life and education Born in Lübeck, his ancestors for three generations had been Protestant pastors; his father Christian Adolph Overbeck (1755–1821) was doctor of law, poet, mystic pietist and burgomaster of Lübeck. Within a stone's throw of the family mansion in the Konigstrasse stood the '' Gymnasium'', where the uncle, doctor of theology and a voluminous writer, was the master; there the nephew became a classic scholar and received instruction in art. Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, better known as Raphael (; or ; March 28 or April 6, 1483April 6, 1520), was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance.
