Hanover Township is one of ten townships in Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,366 and it contained 2,055 housing units. History Thomas A. Hendricks Library on the campus of Hanover College was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Geography According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of , of which (or 98.84%) is land and (or 1.16%) is water. The streams of Chain Mill Creek and Happy Valley Creek run through this township. A civil township is a widely used unit of local government in the United States that is subordinate to a county, most often in the northern and midwestern parts of the country. Madison Township, Jefferson County, Indiana
Madison Township is one of ten townships in Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 17,415 and it contained 8,087 housing units. History It was one of three townships created when Jefferson County began operation on Feb. 11, 1811. Prior to that, the area was part of Madison Township Clark County. It has the largest population of any of Jefferson County's 10 townships as it includes the city of Madison. Outside of the City of Madison, the township has the following active churches: Ryker's Ridge Baptist Church, which was founded in 1840, and Wirt Baptist Church, founded in 1818 as Harbert's Creek Baptist Church. Republican Township is one of ten townships in Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,599 and it contained 639 housing units. Republican Township was created on March 12, 1817 by the Jefferson County Common Pleas Court. It has had the following post offices, which are no longer in operation: Hargan (June 4, 1884 – July 29, 1898); Ramsey's Mills (Dec. 19, 1832-Jan. 14, 1848); Swanville (June 10, 1847-Oct. 23, 1866) and (Jan. 8, 1867-Jan. 15, 1907). There is no active post office in the township. Ramseys Mills Post Office was renamed Kent, which operated from Jan. 14, 1848 until March 26, 1965, when mail service was transferred to Madison. Its active churches include the Kent Baptist, Christian and Methodist churches.
