Hanover is a town in Oxford County, Maine, Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 286 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. The town is a popular vacation and recreation area. History The area was first settled in 1774 by Nathaniel Segar from Newton, Massachusetts, Newton, Massachusetts. The community became known as Howard's Gore.
