Hanns Braun
Hanns Braun (26 October 1886 – 9 October 1918) was a German athlete. Biography He was born in ''Wernfels'' (today Spalt) and died near Saint-Quentin, Aisne, France as fighter-pilot in an airplane-crash in World War I. He won the bronze medal in the men's 800 metres race at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London with a time of 1:55.2, which was .8 seconds faster than the previous Olympic record but 3 seconds slower than the time of Mel Sheppard, the winner of the race. His semifinal time had been 1:58.0. Braun was also a member of the silver medal German medley relay team. He ran the final 800 metres of the 1600 metre race, following Arthur Hoffmann, Hans Eicke, and Otto Trieloff. The team had an easy time defeating the Dutch squad in the first round, finishing in a time of 3:43.2. Hans Eicke
Hans Eicke (1 December 1885 – 22 August 1947) was a German athlete. He competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Career Eicke was born and died in Berlin. Eicke was a member of the silver medal German medley relay team. He was the second runner on the squad, running the second 200 metres. He followed Arthur Hoffmann and was followed by Otto Trieloff and Hanns Braun. The team dominated the first round, defeating the Dutch team easily with a time of 3:43.2. Athletics At The 1908 Summer Olympics – Men's 1500 Metres
The men's 1500 metres was an Olympic event for the fourth time at the 1908 Summer Olympics. The competition was held on July 13, 1908, and on July 14, 1908. The races were held on a track of 536.45 metres= mile in circumference. The event was won by Mel Sheppard of the United States, the second consecutive Games an American had won the event. Sheppard, like Jim Lightbody in 1904, would also win the 800 metres for a middle-distance double. 44 runners from 15 nations competed. NOCs could enter up to 12 athletes.Official report, p. 32. There were eight heats of the first round, with the winners of those heats competing in the final. Background This was the fourth appearance of the event, which is one of 12 athletics events to have been held at every Summer Olympics. Ödön Bodor
Ödön Bodor (né ''Ödön Krausz''; 24 January 1882, Kapuvár – 22 January 1927, Budapest) was a Hungarian athlete. He competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London and at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. He was Jewish. Career Bodor was born in Kapuvár. He was a member of the 1908 bronze medal medley relay team. Bodor ran the final 800 metres of the 1,600 metre race, following Pál Simon, Frigyes Wiesner, and József Nagy. In the first round, Bodor began his leg three yards behind the Swedish team and had to pass the other runner just to remain in competition. The time for the team in that round was 3:32.6. The final saw a reversal of fortune, however, as the American team was dominant. Bodor began with a five-yard lead over the Germans, however. He was unable to hold on to that lead, and finished inches behind the Germans at 3:32.5 to his opponents' 3:32.4 to receive a bronze rather than silver.
