Hannes De Boer
Hannes de Boer (2 December 1899 – 2 April 1982) was a Dutch long jumper. He took part in the Olympic Games of 1924 and 1928. He finished in sixth place in 1928, jumping a distance of 6.32m. De Boer won six Dutch national titles in the long jump and set six Dutch records. The longest jump, 7.37m reached in 1928, would only be broken in 1951.This was not De Boer's last record though. The 7.37m was set at an event in London on June 6, 1928, but it was only recognized in 1932, when the Royal Netherlands Athletics Union decided to recognize achievements set abroad as records. See also #Dutch national records. De Boer was also a member of the Dutch 4 x 100 metres relay team that set a national record in 1926. Long Jump
The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". This event has a history in the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympic event for men since the first Olympics in 1896 and for women since 1948.
