Ned Hanlon (baseball)
Edward Hugh Hanlon (August 22, 1857 – April 14, 1937), also known as "Foxy Ned", and sometimes referred to as "The Father of Modern Baseball," was an American professional baseball player and manager whose career spanned from 1876 to 1914. He was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996 by the Veterans Committee. Hanlon was a manager in Major League Baseball from 1889 to 1907, compiling a 1,313–1,164 (.530) record with five different clubs. He is best remembered as the manager of the Baltimore Orioles (1892–1898) and Brooklyn Superbas (1899–1905). In the seven seasons from 1894 to 1900, Hanlon compiled a 635–315 () record, and his teams won five National League pennants. During his years with the Orioles, Hanlon was also credited with inventing and perfecting the "inside baseball" strategy, including the "hit and run" play and the Baltimore chop. Paul Hanlon
Paul Thomas Hanlon (born 20 January 1990) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Scottish Premiership club Hibernian, where he is the current club captain, and the Scotland national team. He began his senior career with Hibernian, making his debut in 2008, and has gone to make over 500 appearances for the club. He also briefly played for St Johnstone on loan during the 2008–09 season. Hanlon represented Scotland at the under-19 and under-21 levels, and made his full international debut in October 2020. Club career Hanlon played for the well known Edinburgh youth football club Hutchison Vale, along with future Hibs teammate Danny Galbraith. Glen Hanlon
Glen A. Hanlon (born February 20, 1957) is a Canadian ice hockey coach, executive and former goaltender. Hanlon played in the National Hockey League for the Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings. He is also former head coach of the Washington Capitals of the NHL, Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), the Slovakia national ice hockey team, the Belarusian national ice hockey team and the Swiss national ice hockey team. Ritchie Hanlon
Richard Kenneth Hanlon (born 26 May 1978) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder. He played in the Football League with Southend United, Peterborough United, Rushden & Diamonds and Lincoln City. Hanlon also played non-League football with Welling United, Stevenage Borough, Weymouth and Cambridge United. He was forced to retire aged 28 with a knee injury. Hanlon had a stint in 2007 managing St Albans City in the Conference South. He also had a couple of seasons managing his sons Abbots Langley Youth U7's-U8's. Ned Hanlon (politician)
Edward Michael Hanlon (1 October 1887 – 15 January 1952) was an Australian politician and soldier, who was Premier of Queensland from 1946 until his death in 1952. Hanlon was born in Brisbane in the Colony of Queensland to Irish immigrant parents. He lived there throughout his life. After leaving school, he worked in the railways, and soon became a union official. In the 1912 Brisbane General Strike he played a prominent part as a militant. Between 1915 and 1919 Hanlon served in the 9th Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division of the Australian Imperial Force, whose traditions and battle honours are proudly carried by the modern 9th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment. He served under Captain Cec Carroll during the war; in 1934 Hanlon (then Minister for Home Affairs) would appoint Carroll as the Queensland Police Commissioner. Alf Hanlon
Alfred Charles Hanlon (1 August 1866 – 6 February 1944) was a New Zealand lawyer, who, according to the ''Dictionary of New Zealand Biography'', "was one of the most outstanding criminal advocates in New Zealand's history". He was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, where he lived and died, though he represented clients nationwide. Hanlon represented at least 16 people charged with murder, but he is best known for his first defence case, in which he represented the only woman to be hanged in New Zealand, Minnie Dean. Dean was the only murder defendant of Hanlon's to be hanged. Hanlon's career was the subject of a 1985 New Zealand television drama series, called ''Hanlon''. Darren Hanlon is an Australian singer-songwriter from Gympie, Queensland. Prior to becoming a solo artist in 1999, Hanlon was a member of Lismore, New South Wales, Lismore indie rock band The Simpletons, with whom he released four albums and several EPs prior to their 1997 split. Hanlon also contributed backing guitar and keyboards for The Lucksmiths, The Dearhunters, and Mick Thomas. Michael Hanlon (20 December 1964 – 9 February 2016) was a British science writer and newspaper science editor. Early life Hanlon was born in Bristol and grew up on the Dorset coast. He studied Earth Sciences at university. Career Hanlon was the Science page editor at the ''Daily Telegraph'' having previously been Science Editor at the ''Daily Mail'', and author of articles for the ''Daily Express'', the ''Independent'' and ''Irish News''. John Hanlon (born 1949) is a New Zealand singer and songwriter. From 1974 to 1976, he collected three successive New Zealand Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year awards, a feat achieved by no other artist before or since, as well as the APRA Silver Scroll two years in succession. Though Hanlon was born in Malaya, he migrated to New Zealand during the 1960s. In 1978 he then moved to Australia running Sydney ad-agency LOUD. In recent years he has moved back to New Zealand where he continues to write books and play golf.
