Hangar
A hangar is a building or structure designed to hold aircraft or spacecraft. Hangars are built of metal, wood, or concrete. The word ''hangar'' comes from Middle French ''hanghart'' ("enclosure near a house"), of Germanic origin, from Frankish *''haimgard'' ("home-enclosure", "fence around a group of houses"), from *''haim'' ("home, village, hamlet") and ''gard'' ("yard"). The term, ''gard'', comes from the Old Norse ''garðr'' ("enclosure, garden"). Hangars are used for protection from the weather, direct sunlight and for maintenance, repair, manufacture, assembly and storage of aircraft. History The Wright brothers stored and repaired their aircraft in a wooden hangar constructed in 1902 at Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina for their glider. Hangar Theatre
The Hangar Theatre is a non-profit, regional theatre located at 801 Taughannock Boulevard in Ithaca, NY. Its mainstage season and children's shows occur during the summer, but the Hangar, and other organizations, utilize the space year-round for special events. The tenets of the Hangar's mission statement are to enrich, enlighten, educate and entertain. History The initial renovation of a municipal airport hangar into a theatre by Bill Carpenter, the Ithaca Youth Theatre, and Ithaca Fire Department was completed in 1969. Bill Carpenter was hired as the first director by the Chairman of the Ithaca Festival, Tom Niederkorn, and he worked for the Board of Directors of the festival for two years. The theatre was initially called the Hangar Playfair Theatre. It continued to be renovated thanks to a grant from Nelson Rockefeller and the joint efforts of the Ithaca Repertory Theatre, Cornell University, Ithaca College, and the City of Ithaca in 1975. Hangar 18 (band)
Hangar 18 was an American hip hop group from New York City, New York. It consisted of Alaska, Windnbreeze, and DJ Pawl. The group was signed to Definitive Jux. History During their early years, Alaska and Windnbreeze were active members of the Atoms Family crew. Hangar 18 was formed after the two were joined by DJ Pawl in 2002. The group's name derives from a hangar at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. In 2004, Hangar 18 released the debut studio album, ''The Multi-Platinum Debut Album'', on Definitive Jux. It received favorable reviews from ''Exclaim!'' and ''XLR8R''. In 2007, the group released the second studio album, ''Sweep the Leg'', on the label. It featured a guest appearance from Slug of Atmosphere. Hangar 17
''Hangar 17'' is a children's variety show for 9 to 13 year olds that aired on BBC1 from 10 January 1992 to 29 March 1994. The show was presented by stand-up comedian Mickey Hutton and featured a mixture of jugglers, mime artists and comedians along with the more usual musical guests. In the first series the show promoted unsigned musical guests during a Battle of the Bands feature, but this idea was dropped from the second series in favour of more established acts such as Take That and East 17. The show also featured Brit School pupil Paul Leyshon as the show's resident DJ who joined in the second series and was produced by Peter Leslie. Both Hutton and Leyshon were joined by actress Colette Brown Colette Brown is an English actress. In 1994, she was a presenter of the children's television series, ''Hangar 17''. The Crozet Islands (french: Îles Crozet; or, officially, ''Archipel Crozet'') are a sub-Antarctic archipelago of small islands in the southern Indian Ocean. They form one of the five administrative districts of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. History Discovery and early history The Crozet Islands were discovered on 24 January 1772, by the expedition of French explorer Marc-Joseph Marion du Fresne, aboard ''Le Mascarin''. His second-in-command Jules (Julien-Marie) Crozet landed on Île de la Possession, claiming the archipelago for France. The expedition continued east and landed in New Zealand, where Captain Marion and much of his crew were killed and cannibalized by Maori. Crozet survived the disaster, and successfully led the survivors back to their base in Mauritius. In 1776, Crozet met James Cook at Cape Town, at the start of Cook's third voyage.
