Handball At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's Tournament
The men's handball competition, one of two events of handball at the 2004 Summer Olympics, in Athens, took place at the Sports Pavilion (Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex) during the preliminary round and quarter-finals (August 14–August 24), and at the Helliniko Olympic Indoor Arena during the semi-finals and medal matches (August 27–August 29). A total of 180 players, distributed among twelve national teams, participated in this tournament. Yoon Kyung-shin
Yoon Kyung-shin (born July 7, 1973 in Seoul) is a South Korean handball manager and former player. Playing career Yoon Kyung-shin could play in German Handball-Bundesliga through his outstanding performances in World Championships. He played for VfL Gummersbach from 1996 to 2006, and for HSV Hamburg from 2006 to 2008. He became the top goalscorer of the Bundesliga seven times, and is currently all-time highest scoring player of Bundesliga with 2,905 goals. He was also voted the World Player of the Year by the International Handball Federation (IHF) in 2001. He played more than 260 games for the South Korea national handball team, and was top goalscorer at three World Championships and one Summer Olympics. Slavko Goluža
Slavko Goluža (born 17 September 1971) is a retired Croatian handball player and current coach of RK Zagreb. Club career Goluža was born in the village of Pješivac-Kula near Stolac. He began his career with RK Mehanika Metković. At the age of 18, he moved to RK Zagreb-Chromos, with which he won two consecutive European Cups in 1992 and 1993. He won the EHF Cup with RK Metković Jambo in 2000 and the year later the club reached the final again. Goluža also played in Germany for TuS Nettelstedt-Lübbecke, in France for Paris Saint-Germain and in Hungary for Fotex Veszprém. Markus Baur (born 22 January 1971) is a former German handball player now turned trainer. He is considered one of the world's best players on his position. Born in Meersburg, he is a member of the German national handball team since 1994, making his debut against the Moroccan national handball team on 4 August in Balingen. The German handball player of the years 2000 and 2002, he won the 2004 European Men's Handball Championship and the 2007 World Men's Handball Championship. As of January 2007, he has made 200 international matches with 615 goals. Christian "Blacky" Schwarzer (born 23 October 1969) is a now-retired professional German handball player and present-day coach. As a member of the Germany men's national handball team, he won the world championship in 2007 and the silver medal at the 2004 Olympics. Born in Braunschweig, Schwarzer played for VfL Fredenbeck from 1987 to 1991; Schwarzer's first game for the German national handball team was on 21 November 1989, against the German Democratic Republic in Wilhelmshaven. Stefan Kretzschmar
Stefan Kretzschmar (; born 17 February 1973, in Leipzig) is a retired professional German handball player. The son of Peter Kretzschmar, a legendary handball player and coach in the former GDR (East Germany) and Waltraud Kretzschmar, a former handball player for the East German team and winner of Olympic team medals in silver (1976) and bronze (1980), he was a three-time Olympic athlete and winner of the Olympic silver medal with the German team in 2004. Henning Fritz (born 21 September 1974) is a German retired handball goalkeeper, current entrepreneur, book author and TV expert. In 2004, he was the first goalkeeper to be named World Player of the Year. Sports career At , Fritz is a relatively short goalkeeper who began playing major-league handball with SC Magdeburg.
