The Hancock County School District is a public school district based in the community of Kiln, Mississippi (USA). In addition to Kiln, the district also serves the communities of Diamondhead, Pearlington, sections of Waveland and Bay St. Louis, as well as portions of rural Hancock County. Shoreline Park is a former census-designated place (CDP) in Hancock County, Mississippi. It is part of the Gulfport–Biloxi, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,058 at the 2000 census. It was not included in the 2010 census. The area is now largely within the city limits of Bay St. Louis, although some of the western side of the former CDP is still unincorporated after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Hancock North Central High School was a high school in Kiln, Mississippi. The school first opened on August 28, 1959. The school's athletic teams were called the Hawks. Hancock High School is a grade 9–12 public high school located in Kiln, Mississippi, United States, less than 60 miles from New Orleans. It is under the jurisdiction of the Hancock County School District. History The Hancock County School District was created on December 13, 1955. The new school district consolidated the following community school districts in Hancock County: Sellers, Dedeaux, Kiln, Leetown, Caesar, Catahoula, Flat Top, Aaron Academy, Gainesville, Logtown, and Clermont Harbor. Hancock County is the southernmost county of the U.S. state of Mississippi and is named for Founding Father John Hancock. As of the 2010 census, the population was 43,929. Kiln (pronounced "Kill") is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The town is located about northeast of New Orleans, Louisiana. Waveland, Mississippi
Waveland is a city located in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States, on the Gulf of Mexico. It is part of the Gulfport–Biloxi, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city of Waveland was incorporated in 1972. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 6,435. Waveland was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Camille on August 17, 1969, and by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. The current mayor of Waveland is Mike Smith.
