Winston County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,540. Its county seat is Double Springs. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. Houston Jail
The Houston Jail is a historic jail building in Houston, Alabama, Houston, Winston County, Alabama. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 5, 1975. History The building is the only known surviving Log cabin, log jail in the state and the only public building surviving from the time that the county seat was located in Houston. It is believed by architectural historians to have been built circa 1868, when the now destroyed courthouse is known to have been constructed.
