Batavia ( ) is a village in and the county seat of Clermont County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,509 at the 2010 census. Geography Batavia is located at (39.077332, -84.179160). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , of which is land and is water. It is surrounded by Batavia Township. Transportation Batavia is on Ohio State Route 32, also known as the Appalachian Highway, a major east–west highway that connects Interstate 275 and the Cincinnati area to the rural counties of Southern Ohio. Ordinanced in 1800 as part of the Virginia Military District, Clermont is Ohio's eighth oldest county, the furthest county west in Appalachian Ohio, and the eleventh oldest county of the former Northwest Territory. Clermont County is part of the Cincinnati, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county is named for the Clermont Province of France, the home of Vercingetorix, from the French "clear hills or mountain." Its county seat is Batavia.
