''Hamilton'' is a 2020 American historical fiction musical drama film consisting of a live stage recording of the 2015 Broadway musical of the same name, which was inspired by the 2004 biography ''Alexander Hamilton'' by Ron Chernow. It was directed by Thomas Kail, and produced by Kail, Jeffrey Seller, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the latter of whom wrote and composed the music. Thomas Kail
Thomas Kail (born January 30, 1978) is an American theatre director, known for directing the Off-Broadway and Broadway productions of Lin-Manuel Miranda's musicals ''In the Heights'' and ''Hamilton'', garnering the 2016 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for the latter. Kail was awarded the Kennedy Center Honor in 2018. Personal life Kail grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from Sidwell Friends School in 1995 and subsequently from Wesleyan University in 1999.
