Hamid bin Ahmad Al Rifaie ( ar, حامد بن أحمد الرفاعي) (born 1940) is a Saudi Arabian activist and thinker, president (corporate title), president of the ''International Islamic Forum for Dialogue (IIFD )'', and President (corporate title), co-president of the World Muslim Congress. Biography Al-Rifaie was born in 1940 in Bosra, Busor Alharer village in the Hauran, Huraan region of Syria to a well-known family. His father, Sheikh Ahmed bin Zaal Beck Al-Rifaie, was an American educated tribal leader. His grandfather, Sheikh Zaal Beck Al-Rifaie, was also from the leaders and dignitaries in Hauran, Huraan. He played an important role in the national revolution against the French, and was the right-hand man of Huraan Sheikh Ismail Pasha Al-Rifaie during and after the French Mandate for Syria and the Lebanon, French mandate over Syria. Sunni Islam () is the largest branch of Islam, followed by 85–90% of the world's Muslims. Its name comes from the word '' Sunnah'', referring to the tradition of Muhammad. The differences between Sunni and Shia Muslims arose from a disagreement over the succession to Muhammad and subsequently acquired broader political significance, as well as theological and juridical dimensions.
