Frank Hamblen
Frank Alan Hamblen II (April 16, 1947 – September 30, 2017) was an American basketball coach and scout. He played college basketball at Syracuse. He died in San Diego on September 30, 2017. Early life Born in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1947, Hamblen graduated from Garfield High School in Terre Haute in 1965. As a Sophomore, he was a reserve guard on the 1963 IHSAA State Finals team that was defeated by South Bend Central, 72–45 in the first game of the semi-final round. He finished as the Purple Eagles' #3 scorer behind 3-time All-American Terry Dischinger and Hall of Famer Clyde Lovellette. Hamblen was recognized among the top 12 high school basketball players in Indiana and 25 years later was named to the Silver Anniversary Team in 1990 by the Indiana Sports Hall of Fame. Nicholas Archibald Hamblen, Lord Hamblen of Kersey, PC (born 23 September 1957) is a justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Prior to his judicial career Hamblen was a specialist in maritime and commercial law. Early life and education He was educated at Westminster School and graduated from St John's College, Oxford in 1979, being the top first in law. He later became an Eldon scholar and he sits on the scholarship committee. He was awarded a Kennedy Scholarship to attend Harvard Law School and graduated with a LLM. Carl Stuart Hamblen (October 20, 1908 – March 8, 1989) was an American entertainer who became one of radio's first singing cowboys in 1926, going on to become a singer, actor, radio show host, and songwriter. He underwent a Christian conversion and became a Temperance movement supporter and recurring candidate for political office. He is best known as the composer of the song "This Ole House" (1954), most notably recorded by Rosemary Clooney and Shakin' Stevens. Hamblen County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 64,499. Its county seat and only incorporated city is Morristown. Hamblen County is the core county of the Morristown Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Hamblen, Jefferson, and Grainger counties. The county and the Morristown MSA is included in the Knoxville-Morristown-Sevierville, TN Combined Statistical Area. History Hamblen County was created in 1870 from parts of Jefferson, Grainger, and Hawkins counties. Hamblen Drive, Armstrong County, Texas
Hamblen Drive is a scenic road located approximately south of Claude, Texas, United States, in Armstrong County. Hamblen Drive itself is a section of Texas State Highway 207, which cuts through Palo Duro Canyon and crosses the Prairie Dog Town Fork Red River. The road is named for Will H. Hamblen (1876–1952) ) who, with his family, first moved to the Palo Duro Canyon area in 1890. He married his wife, Ada, in 1900 and together they ranched near Wayside, Texas after 1905. In the 1890s, Hamblen helped his father haul cedar posts cut from Palo Duro Canyon to Amarillo, Texas to sell for three cents apiece. The journey was made over old Indian trails through the canyon. During these trips Hamblen began to create a crude road, which made it a bit easier to make the trip to Amarillo, and cut approximately 120 miles of the journey to the courthouse in Claude, Texas. The Hamblen Block or Hamblen's Row is a historic series of four row houses at 188-194 Danforth Street in Portland, Maine, USA, Built in 1835, it is one of the oldest such buildings in the state, and also a rare example, as comparatively few row houses were built anywhere in the state. The row houses were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, and are a contributing property to the larger Hamblen Development Historic District.
