''Hamar Stiftstidende'' is a former Norwegian daily newspaper, published in Hamar, Norway from 1847 to 1971. Its original name was ''Hamar Budstikke'', later ''Hamar Budstikke og Stiftstidende'', then ''Hamar Stiftstidende''. In 1872 editor Olaus Arvesen was forced to leave after disagreements with the owners, and started the competing ''Oplandenes Avis''. Norwegian Language
Norwegian ( no, norsk, links=no ) is a North Germanic language spoken mainly in Norway, where it is an official language. Along with Swedish and Danish, Norwegian forms a dialect continuum of more or less mutually intelligible local and regional varieties; some Norwegian and Swedish dialects, in particular, are very close. These Scandinavian languages, together with Faroese and Icelandic as well as some extinct languages, constitute the North Germanic languages. Faroese and Icelandic are not mutually intelligible with Norwegian in their spoken form because continental Scandinavian has diverged from them. While the two Germanic languages with the greatest numbers of speakers, English and German, have close similarities with Norwegian, neither is mutually intelligible with it. Hamar is a List of cities in Norway, town in Hamar Municipality in Innlandet Counties of Norway, county, Norway. Hamar is the administrative centre of Hamar Municipality. It is located in the Districts of Norway, traditional region of Hedmarken. The town is located on the shores of Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake. Olaus Arvesen
Olaus Arvesen (26 September 1830 – 1 July 1917) was a Norwegian educator and politician for the Liberal Party. He was born in Onsøy. He graduated as cand.theol. in 1862, and was influenced by the pastor and educator N. F. S. Grundtvig. While Grundtvig is often called " the father of the folk high school", Arvesen established Norway's first folk high school at Sagatun in 1864, together with Herman Anker. Arvesen was also editor-in-chief of the newspapers ''Hamar Stiftstidende'' (from 1866) and ''Oplandenes Avis'' (from 1872). He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament in 1892, representing the constituency Hedemarkens Amt. ''Oplandenes Avis'' was a Norwegian newspaper, published in Hamar in Hedmark county. It started on 3 July 1872 by Olaus Arvesen, who had been dismissed as editor of the conservative newspaper ''Hamar Stiftstidende''. He remained editor until 1906, and supported the Liberal Party. It was published twice a week, from 1879 three days and from 1889 six days a week. The Free-minded Liberal Party ( no, Frisinnede Venstre) was a political party in Norway founded in 1909 by the conservative-liberal faction of the Liberal Party. The party cooperated closely with the Conservative Party and participated in several short-lived governments, including two headed by Free-minded Prime Ministers. In the 1930s the party changed its name to the Free-minded People's Party ( no, Frisinnede Folkeparti) and initiated cooperation with nationalist groups. The party contested its last election in 1936, and was not reorganised in 1945. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. ''Norsk presses historie 1660–2010'' is a four-volume work about the press media history of Norway. It was published in April 2010 by Universitetsforlaget, and was the first book of its kind in Norway. Structure and production Hans Fredrik Dahl was the superior editor of all four volumes. The first volume, ''En samfunnsmakt blir til. 1660–1880'' was edited by Martin Eide. The second volume, ''Presse, parti og publikum. 1880–1945'' was edited by Rune Ottosen. The third volume, ''Imperiet vakler. 1945–2010'' was edited by Guri Hjeltnes. The fourth volume, ''Norske aviser fra A til Å'' was edited by Idar Flo. While the first three volumes are written in regular prose, the fourth volume is more of an encyclopedia with about 400 "newspaper biographies". Composed of 1925 pages across all volumes, the entire work cost and was finished after eleven years.
