Hamad Al-Naqi
Hamad al-Naqi (born c. 1988) ( ar, حمد النقي) is a Kuwaiti activist and blogger who in June 2012 was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for charges pertaining to provoking sectarian tensions and blasphemous tweets against the prophet Mohammed. His arrest triggered international outcry from human rights organizations and world leaders. Criminal charges Al-Naqi was arrested on 27 March 2012 and taken to Kuwait Central Prison. After he was stabbed in the neck by another inmate on 19 April, prison officials announced that they were putting al-Naqi in solitary confinement for his own protection. During his trial, prosecutors told the court that his comments "were likely to stoke sedition within the community and mobilize segments alongside sectarian lines", Al-Naqi pleaded not guilty, contending that he had not posted the messages and that his account had been hacked. Nasser Abul
Nasser Abul is a Kuwaiti online activist. On 7 July 2011, he was imprisoned by the government of Kuwait on state security charges, following a series of tweets in support of Arab Spring protesters in Bahrain. Sheikh Abdullah Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Fateh Al Khalifa of Bahrain's ruling Al Khalifa family thanked the Kuwaiti government for Abul's arrest and also announced his intention to file a private libel suit against Abul. Following his arrest, Abul stated that the most inflammatory tweets on his account had been posted by hackers, and that when he became aware of the tweets, he had deleted them with his iPhone. Abul has alleged that he was beaten and subjected to sleep deprivation in the first two days of his detention; according to his lawyer, Abul was also denied counsel for several hearings. Blasphemy
Blasphemy is a speech crime and religious crime usually defined as an utterance that shows contempt, disrespects or insults a deity, an object considered sacred or something considered inviolable.
