Ham Heung-chul
Ham Heung-chul (17 November 1930 – 11 September 2000) was a South Korean football player and manager. While playing for the South Korea national football team, Ham won two titles in the AFC Asian Cup and three silver medals in the Asian Games. He also participated in the 1964 Summer Olympics, but conceded 20 goals during three Olympic matches. After retirement, Ham managed South Korean national team, winning the 1978 Asian Games. He also managed Hallelujah FC, and became the first manager to win the K League title. While climbing Mt. Seorak, Ham lost his footing and fell off a cliff on 11 September 2000. This accident was his last moment. Korea Under Japanese Rule
Between 1910 and 1945, Korea was ruled as a part of the Empire of Japan. Joseon Korea had come into the Japanese sphere of influence with the Japan–Korea Treaty of 1876; a complex coalition of the Meiji government, military, and business officials began a process of integrating Korea's politics and economy with Japan. This competition was originally one of major club competitions of South Korean football with Korean National Football Championship, but its status was undermined after the professional clubs appeared in South Korea according to the foundation of K League, the South Korean professional league. The Korean National Football Championship ( ko, 전국축구선수권대회) was a South Korean football competition for semi-professional and amateur senior football clubs. It was held annually in the second half of the year. This competition was originally one of major club competitions of South Korean football, but its status was undermined after the professional clubs appeared in South Korea with the foundation of the professional league, K League. Seoraksan
Seoraksan is the highest mountain in the Taebaek mountain range in the Gangwon Province (South Korea), Gangwon Province in eastern South Korea. It is located in a national park near the city of Sokcho. After the Hallasan volcano on Jeju-do, Jeju Island and Jirisan in the south, Seoraksan is the third highest mountain in South Korea. K League (Hangul: K리그) is South Korea's professional football league. It includes first division K League 1 and second division K League 2. Football At The 1964 Summer Olympics
The football competition at the 1964 Summer Olympics started on 11 October and ended on 23 October. Only one event, the men's tournament, was contested. The tournament features 14 men's national teams from six continental confederations. The 14 teams are drawn into two groups of four and two groups of three and each group plays a round-robin tournament. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to the knockout stage, beginning with the quarter-finals and culminating with the gold medal match at the Olympic Stadium on 23 October 1964. There was also three consolation matches played by losing quarter-finalists. The winner of these matches placed fifth in the tournament. Qualification Regional qualifying tournaments were held. The men's football tournament has been a regular Asian Games sporting event since the 1951 edition, while the women's tournament began in 1990. History The first Asian Games had football tournament. The 8th Asian Games () were held from 9 to 20 December 1978, in Bangkok, Thailand. Originally, the host city was Singapore but Singapore dropped its plan to host the Games due to financial problems. Then Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, was decided to host the 8th Games. But Islamabad also dropped its plan to host the Asian Games due to conflicts with Bangladesh and India.
