Halvor Midtbø
Halvor Midtbø (1883, Holt, Aust-Agder – January 1985) was a Norwegian priest and temperance activist. He was a member of the central committee of the International Federation of the Blue Cross for 32 years. He chaired the Norwegian branch of the Blue Cross from 1936 to 1960, and became an honorary member. He was born in Holt. He attended the Norwegian Military Academy before enrolling in theology studies, graduating with the cand.theol. degree in 1908. He spent his professional career as a priest; he worked in Philadelphia from 1912 to 1920, was vicar in Glemmen from 1923 to 1936 and Torshov until 1953. Holt, Aust-Agder
Holt is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1960 when it was merged into the present-day municipality of Tvedestrand which is now in Agder county. The administrative centre of Holt was located just south of the village of Fiane where Holt Church is located. Holt Church probably dates from the twelfth century and has an ancient baptismal font. The interior was decorated by Torsten Hoff. The Nordkalottruta trail runs through the Holt area in Tvedestrand. History The parish of Holt was established as a civil municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). According to the 1835 census, the municipality had a population of 3,116. On 1 January 1881, a part of Holt with 52 inhabitants was moved to the neighboring municipality of Dypvåg, and on 1 July 1919 another part of Holt with 14 inhabitants was moved to the neighboring municipality of Moland. The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements. The medal is suspended from a ribbon in the colours of the Royal Standard of Norway. The medal in gold is ranked eighth in the ranking of Norwegian orders and medals. Torshov
Torshov is a neighborhood north of Grünerløkka and Lilleborg in the borough Sagene in Oslo, Norway. Oslo Tramway (''Trikken i Oslo'') provides connections with lines running between Majorstuen and Kjelsås. Vogts gate serves as the main street of the neighborhood. Along Vogts gate are several coffee shops, restaurants and cafes. The Torshov public school was built in 1878. Torshov was separated from Sagene as a separate congregation in 1930. The local sports club is Skeid Fotball. Torshov Church Torshov church (''Torshov kirke'') was consecrated in 1958. The church is located in Torshov kirkepark, between Åsengata and Nordkappgata. The building was built of stone and wood with copper plates, and has 400 seats. The church was designed by the architects Ulf Nyquist and Per Sunde, while the interior decorations were designed by Frithjof Tidemand-Johannessen.
