André Hallet
André Hallet (1890–1959) was a Belgian post-impressionist painter whose paintings have been exhibited at more than 60 museums worldwide, including the Louvre in Paris, France. His most well-known paintings are those of the Congo and around Lake Kivu (in modern-day Rwanda). He was initially sent to the Congo by the Belgian government in 1934 and then settled in Kisenyi (modern-day Rwanda), on the shores of Lake Kivu, in 1947, where he died in 1959. In 1934 he forged a relationship with the Tutsi king Mwambi Matura III (of Ruanda-Burundi) and painted a series of detailed portraits of the king’s family and court. Prior to his African period, he painted scenes of southern France, Naples, Capri, and Sicily, when he traveled through these areas as a young man. This was known as his European period. Étienne Sulpice Hallet
Étienne Sulpice Hallet (1755–1825) was a French architect. Around 1789, Hallet went to the United States. There he became known as Stephen Hallet. He worked as Pierre L'Enfant's draftsman. Hallet submitted plans for the future Capitol in Washington, D.C. in form of a giant dome to Thomas Jefferson. However, the design of William Thornton was favored in 1793. Hallet then worked as supervisor for Thornton, until he was dismissed. He established a school of architecture in 1796, but the school disappeared after 1797. Jean-Pierre Hallet (1927 – 1 January 2004) was a Belgian (born in DR Congo) ethnologist, naturalist, and humanitarian known best for his extensive work with the Efé (Bambuti) pygmies of the Ituri Rainforest. He wrote the 1964 autobiographical book, ''Congo Kitabu'', the 1973 ethnologic book ''Pygmy Kitabu'' (a more detailed description of life with the Efé and neighboring pygmies), and the 1968 book ''Animal Kitabu,'' which details his extraordinary collection of animals in the Congo and in Kenya. He initiated the Pygmy Fund for the benefit of the Efé. Early life Hallet's father was André Hallet, a Belgian painter of African scenes. He lived on the shore of Lake Kivu, in modern Rwanda. James Oliver Hallet (born March 30, 1960) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour. Amateur career Hallet was born in Hyannis, Massachusetts and was raised in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. He attended Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. He grew up playing golf at Bass River Golf Course in Yarmouth. He played college golf at Bryant College, where he was a four-time Division II All-American. He was also the goaltender for the Bryant hockey team for some time. He stated later as an adult that he was "an overnight success" and did not play a lot of junior golf. He reached the semi-final of the 1982 U.S. Amateur which was played in his home state of Massachusetts at The Country Club.
