Alex Halkett
Alexander Laing Halkett (25 September 1881 – 21 February 1917), sometimes known as Ecky Halkett or Alick Halkett, was a Scottish professional Association football, footballer who played in the Scottish Football League, Scottish League for Aberdeen F.C., Aberdeen, Dundee F.C., Dundee and St Johnstone F.C., St Johnstone as a right half. Personal life Halkett's older brother John Halkett (footballer), John was also a footballer. Prior to his enlistment as a Gunner (rank), gunner in the Royal Field Artillery during the First World War, he worked as a wheelwright at Royal Naval Dockyard Rosyth. Halkett was killed in action in Pas-de-Calais, Western Front (World War I), France on 21 February 1917 and was buried in Sailly-au-Bois Military Cemetery. Anne Halkett
Anne Halkett (née Murray) (c. 1623 – 1699), also known as Lady Halkett, was a religious writer and autobiographer. Early life Halkett's father Thomas Murray was tutor to King James I's children. He later became Provost of Eton College. Her mother, Jane Drummond Murray, was governess to the king's children. When Thomas Murray died, Halkett was educated by her mother. She learned French, dancing, medicine, music, needlework, religion and surgery. Her religious education was extensive, and she read the Bible, said daily prayers and regularly attended church. In 1639 Dr Robert Johnstone, a friend of the jeweller George Heriot, bequeathed her a diamond ring. Personal life Halkett's first romantic relationship was with Thomas Howard. Although Howard was from a distinguished family, he was not wealthy. This meant that marriage between them would be economically damaging to both families. Colin Halkett
General (United Kingdom), General Sir Colin Halkett (7 September 1774 – 24 September 1856) was a British Army officer who became Lieutenant Governor of Jersey. Family Halkett came from a military family. His father was Major General Frederick Godar Halkett and his younger brother was General Hugh Halkett. Military career Halkett began his military career in the Dutch Guards and served in various companies for three years, leaving as a Captain (land), captain in 1795. From 1800 to 1801 he commanded Netherlands, Dutch troops on the Island of Guernsey. On 28 July 1803, a letter of service was issued to Major Halkett (and to Lieutenant Colonel Johann Friedrich von der Decken, von der Decken) empowering him "to raise a battalion of infantry with an establishment of four hundred and fifty-nine men" and offering him the rank of lieutenant colonel should he increase the number to eight hundred men. Hugh Halkett
General Baron Hugh Halkett, Royal Guelphic Order, GCH, Order of the Bath, CB, (30 August 1783 in Musselburgh – 10 December 1863 in Hanover, Germany) was a British soldier during the Napoleonic Wars and later a general of infantry in the Kingdom of Hanover, Hanoverian service. Early career Halkett was born in Musselburgh, Scotland. He was second son of Major-General F. G. Halkett and brother of Lieutenant General Colin Halkett. From 1798 to 1801, Halkett served in India in the Scottish Brigade, which his father had been instrumental in raising. In 1803 as senior captain, he joined the 2nd Light Infantry Battalion of the newly formed King's German Legion (KGL), which was under the command of his brother Colin. The 2nd Light were involved in the Cathcart's expeditions to Hanover, Rügen and Copenhagen. During this time he was promoted to major and his bold initiative on outpost duty won a commendation. Sir Peter Halkett, 6th Baronet
Admiral Sir Peter Halkett, 6th Baronet (''c.'' 1765 – 7 October 1839) was a senior Royal Navy officer of the early nineteenth century who is best known for his service in the French Revolutionary Wars. The younger son a Scottish baronet, Halkett joined the Navy and by 1793 was a lieutenant, becoming a post captain after service at the Siege of Williamstadt in the Netherlands. He later commanded the frigate HMS ''Circe'' during the Battle of Camperdown in 1797 and later achieved success in the Caribbean in command of HMS ''Apollo''. He was made a rear-admiral in 1812, but his first major command was in the West Indies in 1836, lasting two years. Shortly before his death he inherited the Halkett Baronetcy from his brother Charles, later passing it to his son John.
