Halkapınar Transfer Center
Halkapınar Transfer Center ( tr, Halkapınar Aktarma Merkezi), commonly referred to as Halkapınar Metro or just Halkapınar, is a multi-modal transportation complex in İzmir, Turkey. Located in northeast Konak, it is the largest transportation complex in İzmir, as well as the Aegean Region. The complex offers connections between İZBAN commuter rail service, İzmir Metro rapid transit service, Tram İzmir tram service and ESHOT city bus service. Halkapınar Transfer Center was originally opened in 1865 as a railway station. The transfer center opened on 22 May 2000 together with a new metro station and bus terminals and was the first complex to offer direct connection between heavy rail and rapid transit service in Turkey. İZBAN, previously known as Egeray, is a commuter rail system serving İzmir and its metropolitan area, mainly on a north–south axis, via two lines: The Northern Line (IZBAN), Northern Line and the Southern Line (IZBAN), Southern Line. Averaging a daily ridership of 185,000 passengers, it is the busiest commuter rail system in Turkey, slightly ahead of the Marmaray commuter line in Istanbul. Northern Line (Ä°ZBAN)
The Northern Line is a commuter rail line operated by IZBAN using tracks owned by the Turkish State Railways. The line runs from north from Alsancak Terminal in Izmir to the town of Aliağa. Train service on the line was inaugurated on 5 December 2010 between Alsancak and Çiğli. Service was extended further north to Aliağa on 30 January 2011. Overview Between Cumaovası and Menemen, a total of 86 trains operate in each direction daily (42 continuing on to Aliağa, 42 continuing to Tepeköy). The first train leaves Alsancak at 5:57, and the last train leaves at 1:00. Bornova Branch
The Bornova Railway Branch was a 5.9 km long railway line, from Halkapınar to Bornova, Turkey, that branched from the SCP's main line at Halkapınar. The line was completed by the Smyrne Cassaba & Prolongements in 1866. TCDD absorbed the SCP on June 1, 1934 and took over ownership of the line. Usage decreased in the 1970s and the line was abandoned in the early 1990s. This line is now a part of the Izmir Metro. Basmane Railway Station
Basmane railway station ( tr, Basmane Garı) is an intercity and regional railway terminal and rapid transit station in İzmir, Turkey. Along with Alsancak station, Basmane is one of two railway terminals in the city. Smyrna Cassaba Railway
The Smyrne Cassaba & Prolongements (English:''Smyrna Cassaba & Prolongations''), formerly The Smyrna Cassaba Railway, was a railway company operating in Western Anatolia from 1863 to 1934. History The Ottoman Government gave a concession to build a railway from İzmir to Cassaba on July 4, 1863. The concession was awarded to an English company "The Smyrna Cassaba Railway". The railway chose to have their terminus closer to İzmir's city center. Construction began ın 1864. The rail line opened to Manisa on October 10, 1865 and to Cassaba on January 10, 1866. The SCR then built a line to Bornova (splitting from the main line at Halkapınar), which opened on October 25, 1866.
