Halifax Fairview
Halifax Armdale is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. This Halifax district covers the growing population of the Fairmount, Armdale and Cowie Hill areas. The northern boundary is Highway 102, the eastern boundary is Joseph Howe Drive and the Northwest Arm, while the southern boundary is Frog Pond Park in Armdale. The district was created in 1992 as Halifax Fairview and encompassed the Cowie Hill area, formerly part of Halifax Atlantic; the Fairview area, formerly part of Halifax Bedford Basin; and the area west of the CNR tracks, formerly part of Halifax Chebucto. In 2013, following the recommendations of the 2012 Electoral Boundaries Commission, it was renamed Halifax Armdale and gained 18 per cent of the district of Halifax Atlantic, including the area east of Herring Cove Road and north of the Frog Pond Park. Jeremy Bernard Akerman (born May 28, 1942) is a former Canadian politician, writer and actor and a former leader of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party. __TOC__ Early life Akerman was born in Alvechurch, Worcesteshire, United Kingdom. He was attracted to politics in his teens, being drawn to the Labour Party by the famous miners' leader Anuerin Bevan. He attended Marshfield Primary School in Castelton, Bassaleg Grammar School and Cardiff College of Art, all in South Wales where he studied painting, drawing and sculpture. While he was in high school and college, Akerman became very active in archaeology, having participated in a dozen excavations in different parts of the principality. The Nova Scotia New Democratic Party is a social-democratic, progressive provincial party in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is the provincial entity of the federal New Democratic Party (NDP). It was founded as the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in 1932, and became the New Democratic Party in 1961. It became the governing party of Nova Scotia following the 2009 Nova Scotia election, winning 31 seats in the Legislature, under the leadership of Premier Darrell Dexter. Lena Metlege Diab (born 1965) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in the 2013 provincial election. A member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, she represented the electoral district of Halifax Armdale until 2021. She did not run for another term in the provincial legislature in the 2021 Nova Scotia general election, opting instead to run as the Liberal Party of Canada candidate for the riding of Halifax West in the 2021 Canadian federal election. Early life and career Diab was born in Halifax, the daughter of first-generation Lebanese immigrants. She moved to Lebanon at age 2 but then moved back to Halifax at age 11, escaping the Lebanese Civil War.
