Frederick Haldimand
Sir Frederick Haldimand, KB (11 August 1718 – 5 June 1791) was a military officer best known for his service in the British Army in North America during the Seven Years' War and the American Revolutionary War. From 1778 to 1786, he served as Governor of the Province of Quebec, during which time he oversaw military operations against the northern frontiers in the war, and engaged in ultimately fruitless negotiations to establish the independent Vermont Republic as a new British province. His administration of Quebec was at times harsh, with the detention of numerous political dissidents and agitators. Early life Haldimand was born in Yverdon, Switzerland. Haldimand And Monck
Haldimand and Monck was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1892 to 1904. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created in 1892 from parts of Haldimand and Monck ridings. It consisted of the townships of Oneida, Rainham, Seneca, North Cayuga and South Cayuga, Canboro', Dunn, Moulton, Sherbrooke and Wainfleet, and the villages of Caledonia, Cayuga, Hagersville and Dunnville. 114th Battalion (Haldimand), CEF
The 114th Battalion (Haldimand), CEF, also known as "Brock's Rangers," was an infantry battalion of the Great War Canadian Expeditionary Force. The 114th Battalion was authorized on 22 December 1915 and embarked for Britain on 31 October 1916 where, on 11 November 1916, its personnel were absorbed by the 35th and 36th Reserve Battalions, CEF, to provide reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field. The battalion disbanded on 21 May 1917. The 114th Battalion advertised itself as "the Indian Unit" during active recruiting and in the media, and several other battalions transferred their Indigenous Canadian recruits to the 114th. The battalion recruited in Haldimand County and the Six Nations reserve, and was mobilized at Cayuga, Ontario. The 114th Battalion was commanded by Lt.-Col. A.T. Haldimand House
Haldimand House is an historic building in Caledonia, Ontario that is one of the oldest in the town. Originally built as a stagecoach inn, Haldimand House has served as a hotel and bar, a boarding house, apartments and then a series of small retail establishments Early years In 1836, Ranald McKinnon. started construction of a stagecoach inn that he would call Haldimand House. He named it after Sir Frederick Haldimand, Governor of Upper Canada. Shortly after beginning construction,, Little received his Crown patents and was legally given possession of the land he was developing. Haldimand House was built three stories high using squared timbers cut at Little's saw mill in Seneca, Ontario. Just before finishing construction, Little moved his house in Seneca off its foundation and transported it by barge to Caledonia, where he attached it to the back of Haldimand House. Haldimand County Museum & Archives
The Haldimand County Museum & Archives, located at 8 Echo Street in Cayuga, Ontario, Canada, is a museum that preserves and makes accessible evidence of the history of Haldimand County. Artifacts related to Haldimand County are restored and displayed in the museum galleries and grounds. The current curator is Karen Richardson. Buildings, Facilities, and Exhibits The museum houses two galleries; one exhibits Victorian parlour "customs and culture," "the busy routine of a pioneer kitchen," and the "tools of a 19th Century blacksmith's shop", while the second holds temporary exhibits . Château Haldimand
The Château Haldimand was a castle that stood where the Château Frontenac now stands in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The building was constructed between 1784 and 1786. History In 1784, Quebec Governor Frederick Haldimand ordered construction of the château. It became the seat of the colonial government of the province of Quebec from 1786 to 1791. In 1860, the Canadian government established administrative offices and the headquarters of the Legislative Assembly of Canada in the castle until 1866. Peter Frederick Haldimand
Lieutenant Peter Frederick Haldimand (1741 or 1742 in Switzerland – 16 December 1765 off Cape Breton) was a military officer and surveyor in the British Army. Haldimand started his military career while less than 15 years old, sponsored by his uncle, Sir Frederick Haldimand. General James Abercromby commissioned him as an ensign in the Royal American Regiment. In this capacity, he took part in the Battle of Montreal in 1760. After being promoted to lieutenant, Haldimand was assigned to do surveying and historical work, drawing up maps of Canada and writing histories of Montreal and Trois-Rivières, as well as getting details on their governance. At the end of the war, Haldimand was charged with assisting Captain Samuel Holland in his survey of the northern district of British North America.
