Hal Lindes
Hal Andrew Lindes is an American–English guitarist and film score composer. In 1979, he played guitar with the new wave group Darling. Signed to Charisma Records, they released the single "Do You Wanna" (written by Lindes) and published the album ''Put It Down To Experience'' the same year, before breaking up. Lindes is best known for his work as a full-time member of British rock band Dire Straits from 1980 until 1985. Dire Straits (1980–1985) Lindes became a full-time member of Dire Straits at the end of 1980, shortly after the release of the group's third album, ''Making Movies''. He replaced original co-founding member and rhythm guitarist David Knopfler. Lindes toured with Dire Straits while they were promoting ''Making Movies'' and remained with the band while they recorded their fourth album, 1982's ''Love Over Gold''. ''Extendedance Play'' (stylized as ''ExtendedancEPlay'') is a studio 12" EP by British rock band Dire Straits, released on 14 January 1983 by Vertigo Records internationally, and by Warner Bros. Records in the United States. The record contains three tracks on the international version and four on the U.S. version, which also included the song "Badges, Posters, Stickers, T-Shirts," an outtake from the ''Love over Gold'' sessions. The cassette release of the EP is called ''Twisting by the Pool'', after the hit song of the same name on its first track. The EP consists of upbeat tracks with a rock and roll, jazz and swing feel. It is the first release by the band to feature drummer Terry Williams, who filled the spot after drummer Pick Withers left the group in November 1982. First recorded by British rock band Dire Straits, it was written by the group's lead vocalist Mark Knopfler and produced by John Carter for Turner's fifth solo album of the same name.
