Milford Haven
Milford Haven ( cy, Aberdaugleddau, meaning "mouth of the two Rivers Cleddau") is both a town and a community in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is situated on the north side of the Milford Haven Waterway, an estuary forming a natural harbour that has been used as a port since the Middle Ages. The town was founded in 1790 by Sir William Hamilton, who designed a grid pattern. It was originally intended to be a whaling centre, though by 1800 it was developing as a Royal Navy dockyard which it remained until the dockyard was transferred to Pembroke in 1814. It then became a commercial dock, with the focus moving in the 1960s, after the construction of an oil refinery built by Esso, to logistics for fuel oil and liquid gas. By 2010, the town's port had become the fourth largest in the United Kingdom in terms of tonnage, and continues its important role in the United Kingdom's energy sector with several oil refineries and one of the biggest LNG terminals in the world. Hakin Docks Railway Station
Hakin Dock railway station was a railway station in the town of Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Located within the commercial docks at Hakin, it was constructed to service an anticipated transatlantic trade between Milford Haven and New York City. It was the terminus of the Milford Junction Railway, itself a branch of the South Wales Railway. Opened in 1888, it was short lived and was no longer operating as a station for passengers by the early 20th century. History The first links to a railway to Milford Haven came through the completion of the South Wales Railway in 1856. Milford Hakin
Milford Hakin is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the Hakin area of the Milford Haven community, to the west of Milford Haven Docks. It elects a councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three councillors to Milford Haven Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,239 (with 1,817 of voting age). Prior to 1996 the ward for elections to Dyfed County Council was simply called Hakin. Charles Francis Greville PC FRS FRSE FLS FSA (12 May 1749 – 23 April 1809) was a British antiquarian, collector and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1774 to 1790. Early life Greville was the second son of Francis Greville, 1st Earl of Warwick, and his wife, Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of Lord Archibald Hamilton. Etymology There is no evidence for the assertion that the village of Hubberston is named after the ninth-century Viking Ubba, and that he overwintered in nearby Milford Haven. The name itself does not have Scandinavian roots; it was first recorded in the thirteenth century as ''Hobertiston'' and ''Villa Huberti'', meaning "Hubert's Farm" and "Hubert's manor" respectively, and has only been known as ''Huberston'' since the late fifteenth century.
