Hajjeh, Lebanon
Hajjeh ( ar, حجة, also transliterated Hajje, Hajjeh, al-Hejjeh, al-Hijjeh, Alhaja, Hadja) is a village located at the Zahrani River in the Sidon District (Saida Caza) of the South Governorate in Lebanon, about 56 kilometers South of the national capital Beirut. History In 1875 Victor Guérin found the village to be located on the southern part of a valley, and inhabited by 350 Maronites. In June 2003, Chucrallah-Nabil El-Hage - who was born in Hajjeh in 1943 - was elected Archbishop of the Maronite Catholic Archeparchy of Tyre. In September of that year he was confirmed by the Holy See and his ordaination took place on 29 November 2003. In the July 2006 Lebanon War between Israel and Hezbollah the town bridge was destroyed in bombardments by the Israeli Air Force (IAF). South Governorate
South Governorate ( ar, الجنوب; transliterated: al-Janub) is one of the governorates of Lebanon. South Lebanon has a population of 500,000 inhabitants and an area of 929.6 km2. The capital is Sidon. The lowest elevation is sea-level; the highest is 1,000 meters. The local population is religiously diverse and includes Shia and Sunni Muslims, Druze, Eastern Orthodox, Maronite, Protestant, and Greek Catholic Christians. Maronite Catholic Archeparchy of Tyre (in Latin: Archeparchia Tyrensis Maronitarum) is an Archeparchy of the Maronite Church immediately subject to the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch. In 2014 there were 42,500 baptized. It is currently ruled by Archeparch Charbel Abdallah. Maroun Ammar (born 10 February 1956 in Hajjéh, Lebanon) is Bishop of the Maronite Catholic Eparchy of Sidon (Saida). Life Maroun Ammar received on 17 September 1983 his priestly ordination. Pope Benedict XVI confirmed his appointment as auxiliary bishop of the Maronite Catholic Eparchy of Joubbé, Sarba and Jounieh to Joubbé and as Titular Bishop of Canatha on 16 June 2012. Charbel Abdallah
Charbel Yusef Abdallah (Arabic: شربل عبد الله, born 17 February 1967 in Hajjeh, Lebanon) is the Archeparch of the Maronite Catholic Archeparchy of Tyre. Life Abdallah was born in the village of Hajjéh in the district of Sidon (Saida), which is part of the South Governorate in Southern Lebanon and belongs to the Maronite Archeparchy of Tyre. He was named after Charbel Makhlouf (1828-1898), a Maronite monk and priest who was canonized in 1977. Abdallah entered the seminary and studied at the private Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in Mount Lebanon. In 1992 he obtained a licentiate of Theology there and on October 24 of that year received his priestly ordination. Abdallah incardinated himself in the Archeparchy of Tyre and was appointed parish priest of Saint Joseph of Hajjeh and of Saint Joseph of Kfarwa, still in 1992. The Maronite Catholic Patriarchate of Antioch (in Latin: Patriarchatus Antiochenus Maronitarum) is the seat of the Patriarch of the Maronite Church. It is currently governed by the Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, OMM. The Maronite Church is one of several churches that lay claim to be the canonical incumbent of the ancient see of St. Peter and St. Paul in Antioch. The Syriac Catholic Church, and the Melkite Greek Catholic Church make the same claim, all of them Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with the Holy See. Chucrallah-Nabil El-Hage
Chucrallah-Nabil El-Hage (in Arabic: شكرالله نبيل الحاج), also transliterated Shukrallah Nabil El Hajj, (born on 26 February 1943 in Hajjeh, Lebanon) was the Archeparch of the Maronite Catholic Archeparchy of Tyre from 2003 until his retirement in 2020. Life and education El-Hage was born in Hajjé, a village in the district of Sidon (Saida), which is part of the South Governorate in Southern Lebanon. He entered into the seminary of the Maronite Patriarchate in Ghazir in 1957. He completed his secondary education in 1962 after attending the Supplementary at Marist Brothers in Sidon as well.
