Haig Homes
Haig Housing is a charity founded in 1928 to provide housing for ex-servicemen in the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands. Haig Homes is the leading UK provider of rental housing for ex-service people. Haig Homes has access to over 1,300 properties situated on small, well-managed estates ranging in size from about six houses up to the largest estate in Morden of over 270 homes. The properties, a mix of family-sized houses, maisonettes and flats, are, including the properties managed by its sister charity Haig Housing Trust, spread throughout the United Kingdom in 47 different local authorities. The properties are for rental only. Haig Homes does not have any sheltered, residential or nursing homes. The majority of homes are suitable for families and only a small number of properties are available for a single occupancy at Bristol, Haslemere (Hampshire), Morden and Woolwich (London). Channel Islands
The Channel Islands ( nrf, Îles d'la Manche; french: îles Anglo-Normandes or ''îles de la Manche'') are an archipelago in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy. They include two Crown Dependencies: the Bailiwick of Jersey, which is the largest of the islands; and the Bailiwick of Guernsey, consisting of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm and some smaller islands. They are considered the remnants of the Duchy of Normandy and, although they are not part of the United Kingdom, the UK is responsible for the defence and international relations of the islands. Haig Fund
The Haig Fund (more properly the Earl Haig Fund) is a charity set up in 1921 by Field Marshal Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig. History In response to the poem ''In Flanders Field'' by John McCrae, Moina Michael started selling silk poppies in 1918 to raise funds for ex-servicemen. The "Disabled Society" was started in 1920 for disabled ex-servicemen and to raise funds for it Anna Guérin organised the production and sale of silk poppies. In 1921 Guérin persuaded Haig to adopt the poppy as the symbol of the Royal British Legion, however demand exceeded supply. In 1922 George Howson pledged that the disabled society could provide the poppies, which under the name of "The Poppy Factory" they continue to do. On 1 January 1994 the words on the central black button were changes from "Haig Fund" to "Poppy Appeal". Coming Home Campaign
Coming Home is a campaign launched on 18 May 2011 to help the UK's Servicemen and women whose lives have been changed so dramatically fighting for their country in Afghanistan and Iraq. 'Coming Home'' was established under the aegis of the charity Haig Housing Trust (http://www.haighousingtrust.org.uk/ a sister charity of Haig Homes) to provide specially adapted accommodation for badly injured soldiers who are left seriously disabled from the conflicts. The Coming Home campaign aims to raise £20 million over the next few years and complements the work of the charity Help for Heroes.
