Hadi Soesastro
Hadi Soesastro (Born Tan Yueh Ming 30 April 1945 – 4 May 2010, widely known as Hadi or "Mingkie") was an Indonesian economist, academic and public intellectual. Hadi was one of the founders of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a think tank founded in 1971, where he served as an executive director and economist. The ''Jakarta Post'' referred to Soesastro as "one of Indonesia’s foremost economists." Soesastro was born in the city of Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Soesastro graduated with an aeronautical engineering degree from the Technische Hochschule in Aachen, Germany. Aside from his studies, Hadi was active in the Indonesian students association, becoming chairman of the West German branch. Soesastro obtained his doctorate from the Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School in Santa Monica, California. He worked as an economist at the CSIS, which he helped to found. Malang, East Java
Malang (; ) is a landlocked city in the Indonesian province of East Java. It has a history dating back to the age of Singhasari Kingdom. The ''Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies'' (BIES) is a peer-reviewed academic journal produced at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. It publishes articles and notes about the Indonesian economy. The BIES has been published three times each year since the first issue was produced in 1965. The current editors are Blane Lewis (ANU), Arianto Patunru (ANU), Robert Sparrow (Wageningen University and ANU), and Sarah Xue Dong (ANU). Background In the mid 1960s Professor H. W. Arndt established the Indonesia Project at the ANU. At the time, political and economic conditions in Indonesia were very difficult and economic data were hard to obtain and of doubtful reliability. Mari Pangestu
Mari Elka Pangestu (; born 23 October 1956), is an Indonesian economist who has been managing director of Development Policy and Partnerships in the World Bank since 2020. The President of the World Bank, David Malpass, announced her appointment on 9 January 2020 saying that she would be responsible for development policy and partnerships in her role in the bank. Previously she served as Minister of Trade in Indonesia from October 2004 to October 2011. Pangestu has had extensive policy-making experience in Indonesia. The Indonesia Project is a center of research and graduate training on the Indonesian economy at the Australian National University (ANU). It is located in the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics, Crawford School of Public Policy, part of the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific in Canberra.
