Haddon, Victoria
Haddon is a township in the Golden Plains Shire, 12 km west of Ballarat. The population at the was 1,194. 84.4% of people were born in Australia and 90.8% of people spoke only English at home. The most common responses for religion were No Religion 38.9%, Catholic 21.2% and Anglican 11.1%. Haddon is home to Ballarat Kart Club, the original Haddon circuit was built in 1961, before being extended and widened to its modern configuration. Around 3 km of the Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail passes through Haddon on the east side. Bills Horse Trough
Bills horse troughs are watering troughs that were manufactured in Australia and installed to provide relief for working horses in the first half of the twentieth century. The troughs were financed by a trust fund established through the will of George Bills. A total of around 700 troughs were distributed by the trust in Australia and 50 in several other countries. George and Annis Bills George Bills was born in Brighton in England in 1859. He migrated with his family to New Zealand and subsequently to Echuca, Victoria, in Australia in 1873. In 1882 he opened a bird dealers shop in Brisbane, where he met and married Annis Swann who had immigrated from Sheffield in England. In 1884 the couple moved to Sydney and George Bills went into business with his brothers, manufacturing innerspring mattresses. Woady Yaloak River
The Woady Yaloak River is a perennial river of the Corangamite catchment, located in the Western District Lakes region of the Australian state of Victoria. Location and features The Woady Yaloak River rises below Black Hill, west of Ballarat and flows generally south joined by three minor tributaries through the towns of , and before reaching its river mouth and emptying into Lake Martin and then Lake Corangamite. From its highest point, the river descends over its meandering course. The river is crossed by the Glenelg Highway west of Scarsdale and the Hamilton Highway at Cressy, and McMillans Bridge on the Rokewood-Skipton Road between Rokewood and Werneth. Golden Plains Shire
The Golden Plains Shire is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018, had a population of 23,120. It includes the towns of Bannockburn, Dereel, Gheringhap, Lethbridge, Linton, Berringa, Teesdale, Rokewood and Meredith. The Shire was formed on 6 May 1994 by the amalgamation of the Shire of Bannockburn (the part remaining after part of it was amalgamated with several other councils to form the new City of Greater Geelong in May 1993), Shire of Leigh, part of the Shire of Grenville and part of the Shire of Buninyong. Upon its creation, it was known as the Southern Rural Shire, intended to exist temporarily until the Local Government Board drew up final council boundaries for the Ballarat region. Smythesdale, Victoria
Smythesdale is a town in Victoria, Australia. The town is located on the Glenelg Highway. Most of the town is located in the Golden Plains Shire local government area; however, a small section lies in the Shire of Pyrenees. Smythesdale is west of Ballarat and west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Smythesdale and the surrounding area had a population of 1,032. Smythesdale Primary School is a part of the Woady Yaloak PS with Ross Creek, Scarsdale, and Snake Valley as the other campus'. The town was established during the Victorian Gold Rush, and the Post Office opened on 14 July 1854. The town was known as Smythe's Creek until 1864. Snake Valley, Victoria
Snake Valley is a town in central Western Victoria, Australia, oLinton-Carngham Road west of Ballarat and west of Melbourne, in the Shire of Pyrenees. A post office was opened on 1 March 1859. At the 2016 Census, Snake Valley had a population of 743, up from 329 in 2006. Aboriginal Snake Valley Aborigines inhabited Snake Valley for tens of thousands of years before Europeans arrived. The Carringum balug clan of the Wathaurong are the traditional owners of the land surrounding Snake Valley/Carngham district.
