Hacı Ömer Sabancı Foundation
Hacı Ömer Sabancı Foundation, also known as the Sabanci Vakfi is a Turkish philanthropic organization. Established in 1974, the foundation gives money for a variety of causes, including education and health. They award scholarships to college students, and sponsor other educational programs. Hacı Ömer Sabancı's sons set the philosophy (''"To give what this land has given to us back to its people..."'') in perpetuity by formally establishing the Haci Omer Sabanci Foundation (known in short as the Sabanci Foundation) in 1974, which institutionalizes the family's philanthropy in supporting the social and cultural development of Turkey. Philanthropic Organization
Philanthropy is a form of altruism that consists of "private initiatives, for the public good, focusing on quality of life". Scholarships
A scholarship is a form of financial aid awarded to students for further education. Generally, scholarships are awarded based on a set of criteria such as academic merit, diversity and inclusion, athletic skill, and financial need. Hacı Ömer Sabancı
Hacı Ömer Sabancı (1 January 1906 – 2 February 1966) was a Turkish entrepreneur, who founded a number of companies, which later formed the second largest industrial and financial conglomerate of Turkey, the Sabancı Holding. He initiated the establishment of a dynasty of Turkey's wealthiest businesspeople. Early life He was born in Akçakaya village, a small village in Kayseri Province in central Anatolia, Turkey. In 1921, a couple of years after the death of his father, the then fifteen-year-old youngster left his hometown and walked all the way to Adana to seek his fortune. Career Hacı Ömer started his new life as a cotton picker. Sabancı University ( tr, Sabancı Üniversitesi), established in 1994, is a young foundation university located on a 1.26 million squaremeter campus which is about 40 km from Istanbul's city center. Its first students matriculated in 1999. The first academic session started on . Sakıp Sabancı Museum
The Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum ( tr, Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi) is a private fine arts museum in Istanbul, Turkey, dedicated to Islamic calligraphy, calligraphic art, religious and state documents, as well as paintings of the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman era. Dilek Sabancı Sport Hall ( tr, Dilek Sabancı Spor Salonu) was an indoor sporting arena located in Antalya, Turkey. Owned by the Sabancı Foundation, it was opened on November 3, 2001. The capacity of the arena was 2,500 spectators. It was the home of Turkish Basketball League clubs, Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi and Kepez Belediyespor. The Sabancı family is one of the wealthiest families in Turkey according to the Forbes billionaires list of 2016, with an estimated fortune ranging between $20–30 billion. The family's main business entity was founded by Hacı Ömer Sabancı in the 1930s. Hacı Ömer Sabancı, the progenitor of the Sabancı family, moved from his native Kayseri to Adana in the early 1920s.
