Hack Miller (catcher)
James Eldridge "Hack" Miller (February 13, 1913 – November 21, 1966) was an American catcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Detroit Tigers in and . He also played 12 seasons in minor league baseball. Miller threw and batted right-handed and was listed at tall and . Born in Celeste, Texas, Miller grew up in Abilene and attended North Texas State and Southeast Oklahoma State Teachers College before beginning his pro baseball career as an outfielder in 1935; he made the transition to catching in 1938. He played in seven Major League games in his career, batting .444 with one home run and four runs batted in; the home run came in his first career at-bat on April 23, 1944 against the Cleveland Indians and lefthander Al Smith. After his playing career ended, Miller managed minor league teams in various Texas cities including Lubbock, Tyler, Wichita Falls, Abilene and Big Spring. Catcher
Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. Alfred John Smith (October 12, 1907 – April 28, 1977) was an American professional baseball player, a left-handed pitcher for the New York Giants (1934–37), Philadelphia Phillies (1938–39) and Cleveland Indians (1940–45) of Major League Baseball. A run batted in (RBI; plural RBIs ) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play).
