Hack-Tic
''Hack-Tic'' was a Dutch hacker magazine published between 1989 and 1994. Throughout its existence, ''Hack-Tic'' had a cult following and upset the authorities beyond the Dutch borders. History In 1988, a small delegation from the Chaos Computer Club in Hamburg visited Amsterdam after being invited by Caroline Nevejan, who organized political events at Paradiso in Amsterdam. Rop Gonggrijp, the magazine's later editor and publisher was at that point already rather well known as a hacker who sometimes appeared in the newspapers. Being inspired by '' Datenschleuder'' (the CCC magazine) and '' 2600 The Hacker Quarterly'', Gonggrijp decided to start his own magazine. In January 1989, the first issue was published. Rop Gonggrijp
Robbert (Rop) Valentijn Gonggrijp (born 14 February 1968) is a Dutch hacker and one of the founders of XS4ALL. Biography Gonggrijp was born in Amsterdam. While growing up in Wormer in the Dutch Zaanstreek area, he became known as a teenage hacker and appeared as one of the main characters in Jan Jacobs's book ''Kraken en Computers'' (''Hacking and computers'', Veen uitgevers 1985, ) which describes the early hacker scene in the Netherlands. Moved to Amsterdam in 1988. Founded the hacker magazine Hack-Tic in 1989. He was believed to be a major security threat by authorities in the Netherlands and the United States. In the masthead of Hack-Tic, Gonggrijp described his role as ''hoofdverdachte'' ('prime suspect'). He was convinced that the Internet would radically alter society. Chaos Communication Camp
The Chaos Communication Camp (also known as CCCamp) is an international meeting of hackers that takes place every four years, organized by the Chaos Computer Club (CCC). So far all CCCamps have been held near Berlin, Germany. The camp is an event for providing information about technical and societal issues, such as privacy, freedom of information and data security. Hosted speeches are held in big tents and conducted in English as well as German. Each participant may pitch a tent and connect to a fast internet connection and power. Galactic Hacker Party (1989) The Galactic Hacker Party was a hacker con that was held in Paradiso in the Netherlands from August 2, 1989 to August 4, 1989 Visitors were people with an interest in technology (mainly computers) and the - at that time - relatively unknown internet. Hackers On Planet Earth
The Hackers on Planet Earth (HOPE) conference series is a hacker convention sponsored by the security hacker magazine '' 2600: The Hacker Quarterly'' that until 2020 was typically held at Hotel Pennsylvania, in Manhattan, New York City. Occurring biennially in the summer, there have been fourteen conferences to date. HOPE 2020, originally planned to be held at St. John's University, was instead held as a nine-day virtual event from July 25 to August 2, 2020. The fourteenth HOPE, "A New HOPE," was held at St. John's University in Queens from July 22 to 24, 2022. HOPE features talks, workshops, demonstrations, tours, and movie screenings. HOPE was significantly inspired by the quadrennial Hack-Tic events in the Netherlands which also inspired the annual Chaos Communication Congress (C3) held in Germany. Patrice Riemens
Patrice Riemens (born 1950) is a geographer and currently the Fellow of the Waag Society in Amsterdam. He is a promoter of Open Knowledge and Free Software, and has been involved as a "FLOSSopher" (a 'philosopher' of the Free/Libre and Open Source Software movements) at the Asia Source and Africa Source camps, held in 2005 and 2006 to promote FLOSS among non-governmental organisations. Nunspeet
Nunspeet () is a municipality and town in the central Netherlands. It has been an agricultural site since prehistoric times. The municipality contains a number of villages, namely Hulshorst, Elspeet, and Vierhouten. Nunspeet has a vivid historical foundation, called Nuwenspete. Oudkarspel
Oudkarspel is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is located in the municipality of Dijk en Waard, north of Noord-Scharwoude. History The village was first mentioned in 1094 as Aldenkercha. The current name means "old parish". Oudkarspel developed in the 11th century a linear settlement along the dike. In 1607, the village became a ''heerlijkheid'' and the manor house Oud-Karspel was built around 1640. The estate was damaged by war in 1799 and demolished in 1808. The Dutch Reformed church is a three aisled basilica-like church. The tower without a spire used to date from the 13th century. In 1969, the church was completely destroyed in a fire, and was rebuilt in a basic style. Oudkarspel was home to 704 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality until 1941, when the new municipality of Langedijk was created. Still Hacking Anyway, abbreviated SHA2017, was a hacker conference and festival in The Netherlands. It is part of the quadrennial hacker camps that started in 1989 with the Galactic Hacker Party in Amsterdam. The camp took place from 4 to 8 August on a scouts terrain in Zeewolde. At least 3300 hackers and technology minded people from 50 countries participated in workshops and discussions. Participants had Gigabit Ethernet through Datenklos (new chemical toilets with Ethernet switches). A radiostation with FM license and a GSM tower were also built. During the camp, lectures and workshops were held in different tents, including talks from PGP founder Phil Zimmermann Philip R. Enschede
Enschede (; known as in the local Twents dialect) is a municipality and city in the eastern Netherlands in the province of Overijssel and in the Twente region.
