Hachimiya Ahamada
Hachimiya Ahamada (born 1976) is a French film director of Comorians in France, Comorian descent, known for her films about the Comoran diaspora. Life Hachimiya Ahamada was born in Dunkirk in 1976,Hachimiya Ahamada africine.org to Comorian parents. She made short documentaries as a teenager at a Dunkirk video studio, and later studied film direction at INSAS (film school), INSAS in Brussels, graduating in 2004. Her short drama ''The Ylang Ylang Residence'' (2008) was shot in the Comoros Islands, and in the Comorian language. Comorians in France consist of migrants from Comoros and their descendants living and working in France. Outside of Mayotte, where Comorians are an important proportion of the local population, a great Comorian community is settled in Metropolitan France, mostly in Marseille. Significance Comorian immigrants make up a significant part of Mayotte's population. ''Ashes of Dreams'' (french: L'Ivresse d'une Oasis) is a 2011 documentary film directed by Hachimiya Ahamada. Synopsis A Comorian living in France returns to her native country after the death of her father. She visits the house that he was having built for the whole family, meets with various local people and looks for a cousin in Mayotte. There are home videos of the father wandering in the empty house spliced with interviews with islanders. She engages in family history research on the exiles, relations between those who stay and those who leave. Vaulx-en-Velin () is a commune in the Metropolis of Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France. It is the third-largest suburb of the city of Lyon, and is located to its northeast, on the river Rhône. History The rivers, including the Rhône, regularly overflowed their banks, leaving behind a swampy area. The first verifiable mention of the village of Vaulx-en-Velin comes from the year 1225. The place was not spared from wars either. In 1628 the plague raged in the village. Many people suffered from malaria - the field name "En Palud" testifies to this. A dike was built between 1863 and 1879 to dry out around 9,000 hectares of land. The Saint Jean Villeurbanne dam, built between 1879 and 1882, protects Vaulx-en-Velin from flooding. 2008 Cannes Film Festival
The 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival was held from 14 to 25 May 2008. The President of the Official Jury was American actor and director Sean Penn. Twenty two films from fourteen countries were selected to compete for the ''Palme d'Or''. The awards were announced on 24 May.
