Capellen is a canton in southwestern Luxembourg. Its capital is Capellen (in the commune of Mamer). Eischen ( lb, Äischen) is the largest town in the Communes of Luxembourg, commune of Habscht in south-western Luxembourg, and its administrative centre. As of 2005, the town has a population of 1,532. Name Eischen takes its name from the river Eisch, which flows through the town. Its etymology goes back to the Celtic word isc or ysche, meaning water. Since the 13th century, the town is mentioned in various chartas, with different spellings (e.g. Eysch, Eske, Yxen). Geography Eischen is situated in the west/south-western part of Luxembourg. Surrounded by forests on all sides, it borders to the east on the small town of Hobscheid, with which it forms an administrative unity, to the south-east, a road leads to the town of Steinfort, to the south and west, it borders on the Belgian Province de Luxembourg and to the north lies the small hamlet of Gaichel. Kehlen
Kehlen ( lb, Kielen ) is a commune and town in western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Capellen. As of the February 1, 2011 census, the commune had a population of 5,048. , the town of Kehlen, which lies in the centre of the commune, has a population of 1,627. Other towns within the commune include Dondelange, Keispelt, Meispelt, Nospelt and Olm. History The history of Kehlen goes back at least to Gallo-Roman period. Celtic tombs have been excavated in nearby Nospelt and a necropolis from the 1st century was discovered in the early 1970s on the ''Juckelsboesch'' plateau between Mamer and Kehlen. A beautiful dark blue glass bowl was among the offerings found there. A monument to the four gods depicting Juno, Minerva, Mercury and Hercules, possibly once the base of a Jupiter Column, was discovered on the heights of Schoenberg at the point where two Roman roads once crossed. Steinfort ( ) is a commune and town in western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Capellen. , the town of Steinfort, which lies in the north of the commune, has a population of 2,184. Other towns within the commune include Hagen, Kleinbettingen and Grass. Transport Road Steinfort lies at the Belgian/Luxembourg border on the Route d'Arlon (N6), the original road linking Luxembourg City to Arlon. Rail Steinfort was served by the Prince Henri Railway that ran from Pétange to Ettelbruck in the north of the country. Despite the line's closure in 1967, the rails were never lifted and old rail infrastructure is still visible through Steinfort, where it crosses Route D'Arlon at a level crossing. Koerich
Koerich ( lb, Käerch) is a Communes of Luxembourg, commune and village in western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Capellen (canton), Capellen. , the commune of Koerich has a population of 2,310. The other small communities in the commune are Goeblange, Goetzingen and Windhof. With its onion-towered church standing above the ruins of the medieval castle, Koerich has a particularly attractive rural setting although it is only 15 km west of Luxembourg City. Location The village lies in the valley of the Goeblange stream which flows down to the Eisch, River Eisch to the west. It is at the junction of the CR 109 to Goeblange and Capellen and the CR 110 to Windhof and Dippach. The centre of the village is 295 m above sea level while the residential developments to the north and south rise to a height of 320 m. The streets in the village are therefore very hilly.
