Habit (EP)
''Habit'' is the debut extended play by American indie rock musician Snail Mail, originally released on July 12, 2016 through Sister Polygon Records and later reissued through Matador Records on August 30, 2019. Its only single, "Thinning", was released on January 26, 2017. Critical reception In a review for ''Pitchfork'', Quinn Moreland gave the album a score of 7.7/10. Moreland wrote that the album "wallows in uncertainty and transition – but their songwriting makes it feel both adolescent and eternal... Perhaps that is why Snail Mail sound so alive despite much tangible optimism: there's no person behind a curtain, the ugly resides in reality." The single "Thinning" also caught the attention of NM Mashurov of ''Pitchfork'', who included the song on ''Pitchforks "best new track" list, describing the song as "lo-fi dream-pop/garage, flat affect carried by fuzzy guitars, indie-pop melodies... Snail Mail (musician)
Snail Mail is the American indie rock solo project of guitarist and singer-songwriter Lindsey Jordan (born June 16, 1999). Originally from Ellicott City, Maryland, Jordan first performed as Snail Mail live in 2015 at the age of 15, and attracted attention with the EP ''Habit'' in 2016. After signing with Matador Records, Snail Mail released her debut studio album, '' Lush'' (2018), to critical acclaim. In 2021, Snail Mail followed up with her second album, '' Valentine'', to further critical recognition. Early life Lindsey Erin Jordan was raised in Ellicott City, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. Her mother is a lingerie store owner and her father works for a textbook publisher. Jordan had a Roman Catholic upbringing. Sister Polygon Records
Sister Polygon Records was an independent record label run by the band Priests. The label was based in Washington, DC, and released music by Priests, Downtown Boys, Pinkwash, Knife Wife, and Shady Hawkins. History Priests created the label in 2012 in order to release their first single, the "Radiation/Personal Planes" 7-inch. The second release was a cassette of the New York feminist punk band Shady Hawkins' 2013 album ''Dead To Me''. The members of Priests ran the label out of their houses and apartments. The label was interested in offering a platform to artists who might not have another way to get their music out. In an interview with the Washington City Paper, Daniele Daniele said: "We're interested in finding people who are underrepresented or weren't signed, making something weird enough where there might not be a normal outlet for it." ''Lush'' is the debut studio album by American indie rock musician Snail Mail, released on June 8, 2018 through Matador Records. The album was produced by Jake Aron. Three singles preceded the release of the album: "Pristine", "Heat Wave", and "Let's Find an Out". ''Lush'' was nominated for Best Rock Album at the Libera Awards. Matador Records
Matador Records is an independent record label, with a roster of mainly indie rock, but also punk rock, experimental rock, alternative rock, and electronic acts. History Matador was created in 1989 by Chris Lombardi in his New York City apartment. Lombardi had brought the Austrian duo H.P. Zinker into Wharton Tiers’ Fun City studio to record Matador's first release, "...and there was light". Lois Maffeo (professionally known for much of her career as Lois) is an American musician and writer who lives in Olympia, Washington.
