Habibur Rahman (police Officer)
Habibur Rahman ( bn, হাবিবুর রহমান; born 1 January 1967) is a Bangladeshi police officer. He is the 35th Commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here he was head of the Tourist Police. From 2019 to 2022, he was Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range, and DIG of administration & discipline at the police headquarters in Dhaka. Besides his police responsibilities, Rahman is known for working for the betterment of underprivileged people of the country, especially trans women and Bede people. He is also the general secretary of the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation, vice president of the Asian Kabaddi Federation, and vice president of the International Kabaddi Federation. Early life Rahman was born in 1967 at Chandro Dighulia in Gopalganj District, East Pakistan, Pakistan. ''The Daily Ittefaq'' ( bn, দৈনিক ইত্তেফাক, translit. ''Doinik Ittefak'') is a Bengali-language daily newspaper. Founded in 1953, it is the oldest newspaper, and one of the most circulated newspapers in Bangladesh. This newspaper format is broadsheet and is printed by Ittefaq Group of Publications Limited. Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum is a museum that commemorates the contribution of Bangladesh Police to the Bangladesh Liberation War. It is located at Rajarbagh Police Lines on 1.5 bighas of (216,000 sq ft) land area and was established on 24 March 2013. It contains various materials and symbols which denote the sacrifice of police soldiers during the war. The museum's research unit identified a police officer killed in British Council premises during the Bangladesh Liberation war. Bede People
Bede (famine: Bedeni) or Bedey, also known as Manta, is an Indo-Aryan nomadic ethnic group of Bangladesh. The Bede traditionally live, travel, and earn their living on the river, which has given them the name of "Water Gypsy" or "River Gypsy". Bedes are similar to European gypsies. They travel in groups and never stay in one place for more than a couple of months. The Bedes are a marginalized group. About 98% of Bedes live below the poverty line, and about 95% of Bede children do not attend school. Historically the Bedes were unable to vote as they did not own land, nor could they apply for banks loan or microcredit for the same reason. However, in 2008 the Bedes were able to win their right to vote.
