Humo's Rock Rally
Humo's Rock Rally is a Belgian contest for rock bands, organized every second year since 1978. It is organized by the Belgian magazine HUMO. Every band that has not yet released an official recording, may enter the Rock Rally, by submitting a demo to HUMO. Humo then selects 100 bands to compete in the pre-selections, followed by semi-finals and a final with 10 bands. The competing bands are assessed by a professional jury. Money prizes are awarded to the top three bands, as well as to one band chosen by the audience. The Rock Rally is an important possibility for young Belgian rock bands to get in the picture. Many notable Belgian bands and musicians, such as dEUS, The Black Box Revelation, Evil Superstars, Novastar, Milow, Arid, An Pierlé, Das Pop, Admiral Freebee and Goose, launched their career in the Rock Rally. Gorki (band)
Gorki was a Belgium, Belgian Rock band, rock group, in its most recent line-up consisting of Luc De Vos (lead singer and guitarist), Luc Heyvaerts (Musical keyboard, keyboard and clarinet), Erik Van Biesen (bass guitar), Thomas Vanelslander (guitarist) and Bert Huysentruyt (drums). Three songs by Gorki were number one hits in the Studio Brussel alternative hitlist ''De Afrekening'' in Belgium: 'Lieve kleine piranha' (Gorky, 1992), 'Schaduw in de schemering (from the CD 'Plan B') and 'Joerie' in 2006. Zornik
Zornik is a Belgian rock music, rock band. It was formed in 1999 by singer and guitarist Koen Buyse, drummer Marijn Horemans and bass guitarist Kristof Vanduren. History The band made it in 1999 to the finals of HUMO's Rock Rally rock contest, under the name Zornik Breknov. There, the band was spotted by Parlophone Belgium and MTC Management. Mint (band)
Mint is a Belgian pop-rock band, which since 1999 released five full-length albums. History After releasing a few singles, they worked with Australian producer Peter Crosbie and released ''Echoes from the Engine Room'' (2004) on indie-label Green LFant Records from Brussels. Absynthe Minded
Absynthe Minded is a Belgian rock band, around frontman, vocalist and guitarist Bert Ostyn. Their tracks contain a mix of thirties jazz, with a touch of funky soul, Balkan beats and Merseyside pop. Absynthe Minded originally was a one-man band, being musician-singer-composer Bert Ostyn. He started off in 1999 with recording ''More Than This'' on 8-track in a 5 to 4 bedroom in Ghent, Belgium, with songs in a moderate rock genre. Freaky Age
Freaky Age are a Belgian rockband from Ternat, a suburb of Brussels. Biography Freaky Age were a melodic indie-rock band from Ternat, Belgium. Singer Lenny Crabbe, guitarist Mathias Declercq and drummer Jonas Pauwels got into the finals of the prestigious Belgian music contest Humo's Rock Rally in 2006. The trio was later joined by bass player Dete Heindrickx and in early 2008 the band were quickly snapped up by V2 Records (Benelux).
