HR 1614
HR 1614 (284 G. Eridani, GJ 183) is a star in the constellation Eridanus. Based upon parallax measurements, it is about distant from the Earth. It is a main sequence star with a stellar classification of K3V. The chromosphere has an effective temperature of about 4,945 K, which gives this star the orange hue characteristic of K-type stars. It has about 84% of the Sun's mass and 78% of the Sun's radius. It is considered a metal-rich dwarf star, which means it displays an unusually high portion of elements heavier than helium in its spectrum. This metallicity is given in term of the ratio of iron to hydrogen, as compared to the Sun. In the case of HR 1614, this ratio is about 90% higher than the Sun. The activity cycle for this star is 11.1 years in length. Based upon gyrochronology, the estimated age of this star is 4.5 Gyr. Eridanus (constellation)
Eridanus () is a constellation in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is represented as a river. One of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy, it remains one of the 88 modern constellations. It is the sixth largest of the modern constellations, and the one that extends farthest in the sky from north to south. The same name was later taken as a Latin name for the real Po River and also for the name of a minor river in Athens. Features Stars At its southern end is the magnitude 0.5 star Achernar, designated Alpha Eridani. ''Hipparcos'' was a scientific satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA), launched in 1989 and operated until 1993. It was the first space experiment devoted to precision astrometry, the accurate measurement of the positions of celestial objects on the sky. This permitted the first high-precision measurements of the intrinsic brightnesses (compared to the less precise apparent brightness), proper motions, and parallaxes of stars, enabling better calculations of their distance and tangential velocity.
