HMS Tynedale (L96)
HMS ''Tynedale'' was a of the first subgroup which served during the Second World War. She was sunk by the on 12 December 1943. Construction ''Tynedale'' was ordered from Alexander Stephen and Sons on 11 April 1939 as part of the 1939 Program and Keel laying, laid down on 27 July 1939 under yard number J1471. She was Ceremonial ship launching, launched on 5 June 1940 and Ship commissioning, commissioned on 2 December 1940. She was adopted by the civil community of Hexham, Northumberland following a Warship Week savings campaign in February 1942. Service and loss ''Tynedale'' was mostly employed on convoy and escort duties initially as part of the First Destroyer Flotilla based at Portsmouth. Tynedale
__NOTOC__ Tynedale is an area and former local government district in south-west Northumberland, England. The district had a resident population of 58,808 according to the 2001 Census. Its main towns were Hexham, Haltwhistle and Prudhoe. The district contained part of Hadrian's Wall and the southern part of Northumberland National Park. With an area of it was the second largest English district, after the East Riding of Yorkshire. It was bigger than several English counties, including Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Hertfordshire. It was also the second-least densely populated district (behind Eden, Cumbria). The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, and was a merger of Hexham and Prudhoe urban districts, along with Bellingham, Haltwhistle and Hexham Rural Districts. Jijel
Jijel ( ar, جيجل), the classical Igilgili, is the capital of Jijel Province in north-eastern Algeria. It is flanked by the Mediterranean Sea in the region of Corniche Jijelienne and had a population of 131,513 in 2008. Jijel is the administrative and trade center for a region specialising in cork processing, leather tanning and steelmaking. Local crops include citrus and grain. Fishing is also of great importance. Deck Gun
A deck gun is a type of naval artillery mounted on the deck of a submarine. Most submarine deck guns were open, with or without a shield; however, a few larger submarines placed these guns in a turret. The main deck gun was a dual-purpose weapon used to sink merchant shipping or shell shore targets, or defend the submarine on the surface from enemy aircraft and warships. Typically a crew of three operated the gun, while others were tasked with supplying ammunition. A small locker box held a few 'ready-use' rounds. With a well-drilled, experienced crew, the rate of fire of a deck gun could be 15 to 18 aimed shots per minute. Some submarines also had additional deck guns like auto-cannons and machine guns for anti-aircraft defense.
